The movie - the first part of the franchise's two-part finale - earned an impressive $27 million over the past two days alone and looks like a lock to finish at the No. 1 spot for a second consecutive weekend, Variety reported.
"Audiences who were ten in 2001 and who are now pushing 20 are still very interested in these characters and the evolution of the storyline."
Dergarabedian said the numbers were much needed for theater owners who were struggling with some lean weeks at the box office compared to last year.
