WOW: Charlie Sheen Makes matters Worse on CNN LIVE (FULL VIDEO, BLOG)

Charlie Sheen & "The Goddesses" and Ex Wife Brooke

Charlie Sheen made a sudden live appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, carrying test results that declared him drug-free and proclaimed, “I’m super-bitchin’ [and] I don’t believe myself to be an addict.” Morgan called Sheen “the Che Guevara of television” and “one of life’s great characters.”

Sheen said that CBS president Les Moonves came to his house and told him, “‘Try to pull it back a little bit,’ and I said, ‘No problem, boss.’” The actor said he was thereafter surprised when production was shut down with what he said were eight more shows to complete the season.

“I would urge Les or Chuck [Lorre] to call in,” said Sheen during the live broadcast. Alas, they did not.

When Morgan asked him whether he felt any responsibility as a role model when he’s the star of Two and a Half Men, “the number one family comedy,” Sheen snickered that the content of any given episode of Men is “juvenile or gross,” containing a quantity of lewd jokes that “eclipses stuff I do on my most epic nights.”

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Sheen said if the rumors are true that CBS is courting John Stamos to replace him on Men, “you guys [at CBS] deserve everything that happens later,” implying low ratings, and adding he didn’t forgive Stamos for ridiculing him on Howard Stern’s radio show.

Sheen said Mel Gibson had called with comforting words — “He’s a stone cold dude,” Sheen said of Gibson. “Sean Penn was over [at my house] the other night and we had a few laughs,” he added.

The irony of appearing on CNN, to be followed by an Anderson Cooper 360 show devoted to Libya and the latest statements by Muammar Gaddafi, was not lost on Sheen. “For me to be the biggest headline while this is going on,” he said, “that’s crazy.”

It was, it must be admitted, an impressive performance — on the wacko terms that Sheen has redefined for himself as decent public behavior. He was quick and frequently funny. Sheen continued to heap scorn on those who would armchair diagnose his condition and urge him into rehab or an organization such as Alcoholics Anonymous. Sheen said he found the rhetoric of addiction is “vintage balderdash” and that to join AA, “you gotta sit in a room and be all lame. I’m a winner and they look like losers.”

Morgan told Sheen that he believed Sheen was “entitled to behave however you want” provided it wasn’t illegal.

“I don’t think you sound that crazy at all,” said Morgan. And indeed, Sheen came across as an intelligent, complicated man — jumpy and a yammerer, to be sure, compulsively rephrasing nearly every sentence he uttered, but by no means out of control or incoherent.

What do you think of Sheen’s appearance on Morgan’s show?

Obama & RINOS: Lethal for America

To be honest, I don't really know whether or not this "Ulsterman" character has any genuine inside information about the White House and Obama. I don't know whether or not he is telling the truth. I don't know whether or not he can be trusted. But one thing I do know is that I was just as angry and surprised to read about Congressman Darrell Issa's 180 degree turn to NOT investigate many of the crimes that have occurred with this far leftist socialist Marxist thug of a pResident in the White House and his puppeteer cronies. The constant activities that are going on to destroy our economy, capitalism, our freedoms and liberty, and keep many Americans unemployed so that they will be forever dependent on government; the adding of trillions to the debt, the desire to keep spending, the refusal to repeal ObamaSCARE despite the FACT THAT IT WAS RULED UNCONSTITUTIONAL BY A FLORIDA FEDERAL JUDGE shows that these people in charge are not loyal patriotic Americans. They are out to destroy our way of life.

Before I post the link to the Ulsterman article, how ironic is it that Obama finally allowed one company to resume drilling in the Gulf after ignoring a judge's orders for 7 months; but about one hour before Glenn Beck was going to report and expose this on his show, the ban was lifted? It's such a coincidence that makes you go hmmmmm!!

Back to Issa. I don't usually read the newspaper, but when I read a back issue a few days ago and found out that Issa now wants to support this pResident, I almost choked on my coffee!!! What an absolute disappointment RINO Issa has already turned out to be!!!!

Because of the above article, I am led to believe that this "Ulsterman Insider" might be the real deal. However, who can trust anyone anymore in this bizarro world of the fraud a.k.a. the Islamofascist ObaMarxist and his anti-Israel, anti-American, anti- U.S. Constitution, pro-deficit antics to destroy our nation and his anti-drilling, job killing policies who should be in jail rather than in the Oval Office of the people's White House? [I know that sentence is a grammatical atrocity, but so is ObamaFRAUD so I'm keeping it as is.]

Newsflavor:White House Insider: Republicans are a Bunch of Spineless Pukes

Obama thuggery and RINOS are a lethal combination for the future of America.

I truly pray that Americans who aren't paying attention, or, are not yet concerned about the huge amount of dangers we are witnessing from this dreadful administration will WAKE UP before it's too late!

Hat tips to all links.

Update:

Just after writing this post, I was led to continue reading "Decision Points" by George W. Bush. The last time I picked up the book, I left off on page 368. The following is what I just read this evening:

I drew strength from family, friends, and faith. When we visited Camp David, Laura and I loved to worship with military families at the base's chapel. The chaplain in 2006, forty-eight-year-old Navy Lieutenant Commander Stan Fornea, was one of the best preachers I've ever heard. "Evil is real, biblical, and prevalent," he said in one sermon. "Some ignore it, some say it doesn't exist. But evil must not be ignored, it must be restrained." He quoted Sir Edmund Burke, the eighteenth-century British leader: "The only thing needed for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

Stan believed that the answer to evil was freedom. He also knew that there would be a cost. "There has never been a noble cause devoid of sacrifice," he said in one sermon. "If freedom is worthy of defense only to the point it costs us nothing then we are in desperate need as a nation."

Above all, Stan was an optimist, and his sense of hope lifted my spirits. "The Scriptures put great premiums on faithfulness, perseverance, and overcoming," he said. "We do not quit or give up. We always believe there is no such thing as a hopeless situation."

Amen!!!

Your Own Show: Week Six Recap

Welcome Back~
I hope everybody enjoyed their weekend. For my regular followers, I know I haven't been writing much lately. I'm sorry. It's not that I don't have anything to say, it's just that I don't know how to say it or whether I should say it at all. Being a blogger, you're always reminded, "Be careful what you write because once it's out there and published, you can't take it back" or "Don't get to personal" . For me, it's more personal than that though. I want to be authentic with you-a no holds bar type of reader/writer relationship where I can be completely honest in regard to the struggles I encounter on a daily basis in the areas of my faith, disability or independence.

Long story short, I don't want to be fake and want to a positive twist on the information on my blog. But it's not always easy be to do that, so sometimes it's easier to keep to myself and reflect. Anyway, that's what I've been doing lately to try and get myself out of this "disconnected" slump. I spent a number of my days reading Karen Kingsbury's last book of the Above the Line Series, Take Four. Most days, I was able to either find myself in the words of a character or a simple reminder of God and His Existence.

I'm still struggling in certain areas of my life, but that doesn't mean I should stop writing. After all, I'm way behind on certain subjects such as Zach on Your Own Show etc.

That being said, drumroll please..

When we last left our teams, Elizabeth was sent home as a result of not being able to bring it. That left Team VISION to fend for themselves with only two contestants Kristina and Terey while Team FOCUS had three remaining contestants including Zach, Alicia and Ryan. At first glance, it seems like an easy week is ahead when the group realizes that that guest star is none other than financial analyst, Suzie Orman. Not so. As the two teams struggle to find the balance between financial advice and inspirational segment, they are caught in a crossroads. How did they make their dreams of their special guests in this segment, come true without sacrificing the reality of financial constraint among one's means?

In the end, both teams do great in fulfilling the dreams of their guests-thanks to a little help from Oprah. But both Alicia and Ryan are eliminated due to their lack of commitment to the story and time management.

That leaves Zach, Kristina, and Terey still in the running for their own show. In the next post, which I will probably write tomorrow, the three attend a press junket. Now, I know you find out the winner if you really want to, but please stick with me. I will be back. You can see the full episode here: http://www.oprah.com/own-your-own-show/your-own-show.html

Iran threatens London boycott over 'racist' Olympic logo?! (Blog)

Iran is threatening to boycott of the 2012 London Olympics because it claims the official logo for the games resembles the word "Zion," which is a biblical term for Jerusalem.

Bahram Afsharzadeh, the secretary-general of Iran's National Olympic Committee, says he sent a letter to IOC president Jacques Rogge in which he condemns the logo as "racist" and calls upon other Muslim countries to join in protest.

The logo was unveiled four years ago to mass criticism, almost all of which had to do with the awkward, bulky design and not pro-Zionist conspiracy:

If you're reading vertically rather than horizontally and think an irregular pentagon resembles the letter "I" then you can sort of make out "zion" in the logo. Although if you read counterclockwise from the bottom left it also looks like "Izzo," which may draw copyright complaints from Jay-Z and cries of protest from Ohio State fans.

"There is no doubt that negligence of the issue from your side may affect the presence of some countries in the games, especially Iran, which abides by commitment to the values and principles," Afsharzadeh said in the letter to Rogge.

Iran lecturing the IOC on commitment to sporting values and principles is laughable. This is the same nation that's refused to send athletes to compete against Israelis for the past three decades. Complain about the logo all you want but stop with the false piety.

The IOC rejected the complaint.
"Our response is as follows: The London 2012 logo represents the figure 2012, nothing else," a spokesman said.

U.S. Government Doctors Admit to Testing on Humans?! (Blog, Link)

ATLANTA – Shocking as it may seem, U.S. government doctors once thought it was fine to experiment on disabled people and prison inmates. Such experiments included giving hepatitis to mental patients in Connecticut, squirting a pandemic flu virus up the noses of prisoners in Maryland, and injecting cancer cells into chronically ill people at a New York hospital.

Much of this horrific history is 40 to 80 years old, but it is the backdrop for a meeting in Washington this week by a presidential bioethics commission. The meeting was triggered by the government's apology last fall for federal doctors infecting prisoners and mental patients in Guatemala with syphilis 65 years ago.

U.S. officials also acknowledged there had been dozens of similar experiments in the United States — studies that often involved making healthy people sick.

"When you give somebody a disease — even by the standards of their time — you really cross the key ethical norm of the profession," said Arthur Caplan, director of the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics.

Some of these studies, mostly from the 1940s to the '60s, apparently were never covered by news media. Others were reported at the time, but the focus was on the promise of enduring new cures, while glossing over how test subjects were treated.

he AP review of past research found:

_A federally funded study begun in 1942 injected experimental flu vaccine in male patients at a state insane asylum in Ypsilanti, Mich., then exposed them to flu several months later. It was co-authored by Dr. Jonas Salk, who a decade later would become famous as inventor of the polio vaccine.

Some of the men weren't able to describe their symptoms, raising serious questions about how well they understood what was being done to them. One newspaper account mentioned the test subjects were "senile and debilitated." Then it quickly moved on to the promising results.

_In federally funded studies in the 1940s, noted researcher Dr. W. Paul Havens Jr. exposed men to hepatitis in a series of experiments, including one using patients from mental institutions in Middletown and Norwich, Conn. Havens, a World Health Organization expert on viral diseases, was one of the first scientists to differentiate types of hepatitis and their causes.
A search of various news archives found no mention of the mental patients study, which made eight healthy men ill but broke no new ground in understanding the disease.

_Researchers in the mid-1940s studied the transmission of a deadly stomach bug by having young men swallow unfiltered stool suspension. The study was conducted at the New York State Vocational Institution, a reformatory prison in West Coxsackie. The point was to see how well the disease spread that way as compared to spraying the germs and having test subjects breathe it. Swallowing it was a more effective way to spread the disease, the researchers concluded. The study doesn't explain if the men were rewarded for this awful task.

_A University of Minnesota study in the late 1940s injected 11 public service employee volunteers with malaria, then starved them for five days. Some were also subjected to hard labor, and those men lost an average of 14 pounds. They were treated for malarial fevers with quinine sulfate. One of the authors was Ancel Keys, a noted dietary scientist who developed K-rations for the military and the Mediterranean diet for the public. But a search of various news archives found no mention of the study.

_For a study in 1957, when the Asian flu pandemic was spreading, federal researchers sprayed the virus in the noses of 23 inmates at Patuxent prison in Jessup, Md., to compare their reactions to those of 32 virus-exposed inmates who had been given a new vaccine.

_Government researchers in the 1950s tried to infect about two dozen volunteering prison inmates with gonorrhea using two different methods in an experiment at a federal penitentiary in Atlanta. The bacteria was pumped directly into the urinary tract through the penis, according to their paper.

The Clippers celebrate Black History Month...In The Wrong Month?! (Blog)

Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States since 1976, and entire generations of Americans have grown up knowing that Black History Month falls every year in February. Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling doesn't appear to either know this, or he doesn't appear to care. Either way, he's celebrating Black History Month in March this year.

So says an ad he took out on Sunday in the Los Angeles Times, celebrating Black History Month in a March 2 game between his Clippers and the Houston Rockets:
To use Deadspin writer Emma Carmichael's much-better-than-I-could-come-up-with line, "it is unclear exactly how the Clippers will determine a child's 'privilege' status, but we have one guess."
The Black History Month mixup is all the more shocking given that Sterling has a history of facing race-based accusations.

As owner of the Clippers, he's been accused of some pretty awful stuff as well. It was reported earlier this season by Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears that Sterling could be heard repeatedly heckling the since-traded Baron Davis (though if Davis were white, we suspect Sterling and several thousand other Clipper fans would heckle just as passionately), and he's been reported as making unseemly comments about his half-clothed players in the Clipper locker room.

Worse is the ad's implementation. One thousand tickets to a random Wednesday game between two lottery teams is nothing, especially considering the 1,000 adults that have to accompany (read: buy a ticket to stay alongside the kid who gets in for free) the children. Toss in concession receipts (tell a kid of any age or background to sit through a three-hour basketball game and not ask for a morsel or fructose-laden beverage; just try it) and you've got yourself another money-making scheme, there, Donald.

Really, the only cost to Sterling is this full page ad in the Los Angeles Times, which had to cost quite a bit. Seems like advertising more than anything, regardless of the team or owner. With Sterling, it just looks like another reason why the most despicable person in sports (non-rapist division) needs to be hurled from the NBA by a commissioner who prefers Los Angeles profits over dignity and respect.

Questions To Ask (and not ask) At A Job Interview (Blog)

Job interviews usually close with the same five words: "Do you have any questions?" It may sound benign, but for a job applicant, it can feel like the moment of truth.

Here are the six best questions to ask in your next job interview:

#1 What do you really enjoy about working here?
When you step into an interview, it's important to remember that the person conducting the interview isn't just there to intimidate you; he or she is also your window into the company. And with this question, you can tactfully get a better sense of how the interviewer -- and perhaps employees in general -- feel about the company you may one day call home.

"The answer to this question as well as the tone of the answer will provide critical insights as to how happy and supported employees feel at the organization," Levit said.

#2 What are your goals for the company in the next year?
Much of the interview itself will likely be devoted to the specifics of your position and your qualifications for it, so it's a good idea to break out of that pattern when possible to get a sense of the big picture.

According to Levit, this particular question can give you a better sense of "how your position fits into the company as a whole, and more broadly, about whether the company is a good place to work."

#3 What skills do I need to have most to help the team?
Trunk emphasizes that the best questions one can ask are the ones that show you care about teamwork, bottom line results and know how to manage yourself in a group. With this particular question, you accomplish all of those points and can get better a sense of what will be expected of you once you start working.

#4 If I were hired, what would you like to see me achieve in my first three to six months on the job?
As with the previous question, this one will help you get a better sense of how you'll be judged in your new career.

"It's important to understand expectations from the get-go," Levit said. "This is especially true if you are being hired for a management position."

#5 Why is this position vacant?
It may sound like an off-putting question at first blush, but according to Johnson, it's essential.

"It's important to know whether the position is vacant because someone was promoted from within, or the job is newly created because of growth or if it's a vacant because of high turnover," she said. "Don't wait until getting hired to discover you're the sixth person in three months to occupy the seat."

Indeed, this question could lead to others and prove to be the most profitable exchange you have in the interview.

#6 Do you have any reservations in hiring me?
If all your questions have been answered, Trunk recommends ending the interview with this powerful line.

"Just have some self-confidence and say, 'No, I don't have any questions, but I've learned a lot here and I know this is a great job for me. Do you have any reservations in hiring me?'" she said. "It forces the hiring manager to tell you what reservations they do have, and gives you an opportunity to combat them."

What NOT To Ask:
"Don't ask them questions about what you want out of the job -- money, advancement opportunities -- it just comes off as selfish," said Challenger, the consulting firm CEO. Likewise, Trunk recommends holding off on asking about vacation days and salaries.

"These are kiss-of-death questions," she says. "Save them for after you actually get the job offer."

Lil' Wayne Searched By DEA! (Blog)

Lil Wayne was greeted by federal agents after arriving at Miami’s Opa-Loca Airport this weekend, according to TMZ.com.

Law enforcement sources for the celebrity gossip site say that several agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency were on hand to perform a contraband search on the Louisiana rapper, who is currently on probation, on Sunday (February 27) morning after he stopped off his plane. Unable to find anything illegal however, they let the rapper go on his way without impeding him any further.

As a part of his two-year-long probation, Wayne is not allowed to have guns, drugs, or any other illegal substances in his possession at any time, and cannot consume alcohol.

“Wayne is very smart and intelligent, trust me, he knows. He knows what he has to do,” said Cash Money CEO Ronald “Slims” Williams while talking about Wayne’s legal situation.

“When he went down [for attempted possession of a weapon], we all went down. We are family and we hold each other up. That’s one thing about us. If you don’t know us, we are one big family and we stick together.”

Good for him! Staying clean is a great example that it can be done!!

Younger Audience Still Doesn't Watch the Oscars!! (Blog)

LOS ANGELES — The Oscars tripped in their transition to a hipper, younger, media-mad future, attracting 12 percent fewer viewers than last year in the important 18-to-49 age bracket.

Early ratings results for Sunday night’s broadcast of the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony on ABC pointed toward an overall audience of 37.6 million, about 4 million viewers short of last year’s 41.7 million.

In a year when ratings for the Grammys, the Golden Globes and the Super Bowl were all up, the bright, new Twitter-fingered Oscars were down. Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which bestows the awards and produces the telecast, was not ready to concede defeat, however. “I think it’s a beginning — everything needs to start somewhere,” Mr. Sherak said in a telephone interview. “Something didn’t work? Let’s try to fix it.”

The viewership figures mean that these annual movie awards are still chugging along as a spectacle one-third the size of the Super Bowl, almost as big as a good playoff game and down about 34 percent from their own contemporary ratings peak, in 1998, when “Titanic” helped deliver more than 57 million viewers.

But Mr. Franco and Ms. Hathaway survived. And for the Oscars, there’s always next year.

Google Loses Gmail Users' Email, Says It Will Be Back in Hours?!

Some Gmail users have had some problems over the last day or so. Email messages have gone missing, along with labels, themes and other personalized settings. Google is working on fixing this.

While only a small percentage of Google users was affected, that still accounts for thousands of users - tens of thousands, according to ComputerWorld, who estimates the number to be about 35,000.

TheNextWeb shares this statement from Google:

"A very small number users are having difficulty accessing their Gmail accounts, and in some cases once they're in, trouble viewing emails. This is affecting less than .08% of our Gmail user base, and we've already fixed the problem for some users. Our engineers are working as quickly as possible and we hope to have everything back to normal as soon as possible. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience."

Google's Andrew Kovacs has since tweeted:
According to Seth Weintraub at Fortune, some Gmail users have been without their messages for over 24 hours.

The latest message on the Apps Status Dashboard from 4:15PM Eastern, says:

Google Mail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users within the next 10 hours. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change.

The remaining 0.012% of accounts are being restored on an ongoing basis.

Google has often boasted having tremendous uptime for Gmail, and while only a small percentage of users appears to have been affected, the widely publicized flub is sure to leave an impression on users.

Of course, there's barely a day that goes by when that I don’t have some kind of issue with Twitter (and I know I'm not alone), yet many of us keep using that. As long as Google gets everything recovered, as they seem pretty confident that they will do, this will probably be largely forgotten in no time - especially considering similar incidents from competitors.

12 KM TRAFFIC JAM HIGHLIGHTS WOES INFRASTUCTURE

For several days, hundreds of frustrated truck drivers have had to eat and sleep on the road to the port city of Merak, Banten.

A shortage of ferries making the crossing to Lampung has been blamed for the 12-kilometer snarl of vehicles that has almost led to a riot among the tired and hungry drivers.

About a hundred officers from the police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) were dispatched on Saturday to defuse the situation, and by nightfall local residents were reportedly seen bringing food to the drivers.

With 14 of the 33 ships that normally serve the route in disrepair — blamed on factors including poor port management, capacity and policies — the government over the weekend dispatched ferries to help clear the backlog, which officials said would take at least five days.

The damage has been done, though. Perishable goods like fruit and vegetables have rotted. Reports say the prices of chili and tofu in some markets in Lampung have already increased as a result. Some of the drivers reportedly resorted to selling some of their cargo to buy food and drink.

Unfortunately, this kind of bottleneck is not uncommon for Indonesia, which ranked 75th in the World Bank’s recent Logistics Performance Index, below neighboring Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

“The government is being irresponsible because the gridlock in Merak happens every year,” Sofyan Wanandi, chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), told the Jakarta Globe on Sunday.

“If the government can’t manage the ports, leave it to the private sector or open up competition.”

Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo acknowledged on Friday that poor infrastructure was hampering the government’s target of 7 percent growth by 2014.

“So far, infrastructure development has not progressed as expected,” he said. “There are a lot of public-private partnership programs that don’t work.”

To address the issue, Agus said the government may start making cuts to the budget. “It’s time to tighten our belts and set our priorities straight,” he said.

This year, the transportation budget is set at Rp 43.8 trillion ($4.95 billion), lower than the budget for defense (Rp 45.2 trillion), social welfare (Rp 61.5 trillion) and food and energy subsidies (Rp 108 trillion).

“Infrastructure is the key to development,” Agus said. “Investors are looking for guarantees and the government is ready to meet that.”

Sofyan said the government itself should be tightening its belt, though. “Why not reduce the cost of holding seminars, travel visits, conferences and government summits?” he said.

NORTH KOREA TREATERNS YO ATTACK SOUTH KOREA, US

North Korea threatened Sunday to attack South Korea and the United States, as the allies prepared to start annual joint military drills - maneuvers Pyongyang says are a rehearsal for an invasion.

The North has routinely issued such war rhetoric against South Korea and the U.S. The latest warning, however, came nearly three weeks after the rival Koreas failed to reach a breakthrough in their first dialogue in months.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula rose sharply last year over two deadly attacks - the sinking of a South Korean naval ship blamed on the North and a North Korean artillery barrage that killed four people on a front-line South Korean island. North Korea denies it was involved in the ship sinking, which killed 46 South Korean sailors.

On Sunday, the North used harsh rhetoric against South Korea and the U.S., calling their joint drills a "dangerous military scheme."

"Our military and people will take stern military countermeasures against the American imperialists and the (South Korean) traitors' group, because they are challenging us with aggressive military action," the North's military said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

It accused South Korea and the U.S. of plotting to launch "limited war" and topple Pyongyang's communist government. If provoked, the North will start a "full-scale" war and turn Seoul into a "sea of fire," the statement said.

Earlier Sunday, the North's military warned that it would fire directly at South Korean border towns and destroy them if Seoul continued to allow activists to launch propaganda leaflets toward the communist country.

In a separate statement carried by KCNA, it accused South Korean activists and lawmakers of flying balloons carrying hundreds of thousands of leaflets critical of North Korea's government, one-dollar bills, DVDs containing corrupt animation files and other materials on the North's most important national holiday, an apparent reference to leader Kim Jong Il's 69th birthday, which was Feb. 16.

It was unclear whether activists have launched more balloons since then and if they plan additional leafletting in coming days.

The South Korean Defense Ministry confirmed it had received the North's warning. A ministry official said South Kore's military keeps a close watch on North Korean military movement. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department rules.

Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin told parliament Friday that North Korea may launch new attacks this spring and that South Korea's military was ready to cope with any typesof hostilities.

On Monday, South Korea and the U.S. are to launch drills aimed at rehearsing how to respond to any potential emergency on the Korean peninsula.

About 12,800 U.S. troops and some 200,000 South Korean soldiers and reservists will take part in the drills, which will last 11 days and invole computer war games, live-firing exercises and other field training, according to the U.S. and South Korean militaries.

Pyongyang has called the drills a preparation to invade North Korea, though South Korean and U.S. officials have repeatedly said the maneuvers are purely defensive and that they have no itention of attacking.

After weeks of tension following November's bombardment of the island, North Korea pushed for dialogue with South Korea and expressed a desire to return to stalled international disarmament talks on its nuclear program.

Military officers from the two Koreas met earlier this monthbut failed to produce any progress, with both sides accusing the other of rupturing the dialogue. North Korea later threatened not to hold any more military talks with Seoul.

The two Koreas are still technically at war because the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treay. About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea to help deter potential aggression by the North.

Boston Club Fined, Apologizes for Discriminating Against Black Harvard Students! (Blog)

In November, we reported that a Boston club turned away Black Patrons. Well, justice has been served!

A Boston nightclub has agreed to pay a fine, issue a public apology and have its staff attend anti-discrimination training for closing the club when a significant number of black attendees showed up, according to an agreement reached with Attorney General Martha Coakley and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.

The agreement was based on a complaint made by a group of black Harvard graduates who had organized an event at Cure Lounge as an after-party to the Harvard and Yale football game last November.

Approximately 400 tickets were purchased before the sold-out event. But about an hour after the 10 p.m. starting time, Cure Lounge abruptly ended the event and told all guests that they needed to leave. The vast majority of event guests who stood in line and who entered the club were black, according to the complaint.

Under the agreement, which states Cure Lounge violated state laws prohibiting public places from restricting entry or limiting use based on race, gender, or national origin, the nightclub must pay a $30,000 fine to the state.
“Massachusetts businesses cannot refuse to host events because of racial reasons,” Coakley said in a statement.

Coakley added, “in this case, club waitstaff made harmful and ill-conceived conclusions based on the simple fact that mot of the guests were black. This type of behavior is the essence of racial stereotyping and it is a reminder that, despite the many strides we have taken, there is still progress to be made.”
