Tristan Thompson Declares for NBA Draft

Tristan Thompson is leaving the University of Texas to the NBA.  The freshman anchored the Longhorns team this season as a freshman and played exceptionally well.  Thompson averaged 13.1 points, 7.8 rebounds (second-best in the Big 12) and 2.4 blocks per game.  Thompson's draft stock increased when higher rated players at the same position, like Jared Sullinger (Ohio State), Perry Jones III (Baylor) and Harrison Barnes (North Carolina), decided to stay in school.  He is expected to be a mid-to-late 1st round pick, but definitely has upside with his age.  Good luck Tristan!

The Texas Longhorns finished the regular season with a 27-7 record. They finished runner-up in the Big 12 Tournament, losing to Kansas 85-73 in the championship game. They received the #4 seed in the West region and will open up against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, a team that went 25-9 and 17-1 in their conference. They are a team capable of upsets, beating Tennessee this season and losing to Michigan State by 1. In the West, Duke got a #1, San Diego State got the #2, and Connecticut got the #3.

Colorado Buffaloes Pull Off Huge Upset

The Texas Longhorns were defeated by the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday afternoon.  It was a monumental upset for the Buffaloes.  The Buffaloes stormed back from a 22-point first-half deficit and overcame a 48-33 halftime hole behind Alec Burks' 33 points and Levi Knutson's 21. This latest loss dropped Texas into a tie for first place in the Big 12 with Kansas, which beat Oklahoma 82-70.  Hopefully the Longhorns can rebound from this victory.  Next up:  Home vs. Kansas State on Monday, February 28th.

Texas Will Look To Change the Fortune From Last Year's Fall

Last season, the University of Texas was rated #1 in the country for Men's college basketball.  They were considered one of the favorites for the title.  All of a sudden, the team had spiralled downward and lost 8 games down the stretch.  They were granted the #8 seed and lost to #9 seed Wake Forest in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  They started 17-0 and finished 24-10.  They went 7-10 after being named #1.  So, as they climb up the rankings, can they change last season's misfortunates of the lofty ranking?  Let's hope so.
