A Dog Story

We are a family of dog lovers. Our two dogs are so precious to us - they are so much a part of our family that it would be hard to live life without them! We have a Puggle (Beagle and Pug mix) and a Dachshund/Pekingese mix (he looks like a long-haired Dachshund).

Every so often, a funny thing happens while walking the dogs. This morning, I took them out for a walk earlier than usual. It was around 8:00 a.m. Up the street, there is a house that has decor out front that reminds me of the house in the movie called "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." They have a scrolled black fence all around the property and several Greek statues scattered all around the front yard. Typically, the dogs that live there are either in the house or in the back yard. I hear them barking occasionally when the dogs and I walk by. However, this morning they were running around in the front yard! One was a big white dog. The other two were smaller dogs; one white and one black. As we approached the fencing area, the dogs came right up to the fence and barked. Suddenly, all three were out of the fenced area charging up the street towards us! I didn't know what to do at first. My dogs had never done the "meet and greet" with these dogs so I didn't know whether or not they would be friendly. I was ready to pick both of them up in case the big dog pounced on them. But he was friendly, as were the other two smaller dogs.

Next, a man dressed in pajamas and flip flops walks up the street towards us. All the dogs were mingling together, but then a large red truck started zooming up the street towards us. I waved my hands at the driver telling him that there was a small loose dog in the path of his truck! Luckily, he slowed down, and then drove by slowly when the dogs were clear of his path.

Meanwhile, pajama man caught up with us, but his dogs all took off up the street. I told him, "you are probably going to need a car and some leashes to catch your dogs!"

I tried to grab the collar of one of the dogs but it dashed away before I could catch him. The man continued up the street while I walked in the same direction towards my home.  He obviously was thinking that he would capture all three of the dogs himself. I thought, "fat chance" but didn't say anything to him directly. My hint to get the car and some leashes apparently fell on deaf ears.  At least he did have one leash and was able to capture his own black dog.

As we walked up the street, I learned that this man had recently ( 2 months ago) moved back into his parent's home. The small black dog (which he successfully captured) was his. The other two dogs belonged to his parents. As we were walking along (and the two dogs were running up the street, far away from us) he told me that this has happened before. Apparently, the dogs have escaped under the driveway entrance gate because it is high enough up off the ground that even the big dog could easily escape under it! The man told me that the three dogs don't usually leave the yard - unless they see other dogs on leashes coming down the street. (No....DUH!! I thought.)

He apologized for the disruption the dogs were causing to our walk. I said that I was concerned that his loose dogs might get hit by a car. He mentioned that one time, two of the dogs owned by the parents got out and were gone for two hours! They came back filled with dirt, brush and burrs in their hair! He mentioned that they headed for the gully, a wooded area between two houses just up the street from my home. I know the area very well! Coyotes like to hang out in that spot. This is why we can't even leave our dogs unattended in our fenced in back yard.  Coyotes can jump high and over most back yard fences! I didn't tell pajama man all of this, but perhaps next time I will share the recent horror stories I have learned about coyotes attacking dogs in the area.

A neighbor across the street from me said that one day she and her dog were confronted by three coyotes!! She stopped dead in her tracks, but the coyotes ran away. Then she told me that a coyote got a neighbor's dog (they live at the top of the cul-de-sac) in its jaws and the woman grabbed her precious Hannah from the coyote! Hannah had to get stitches all along her belly! Thank God the dog lived!!  Brave owner to get her dog out of the jaws of a coyote!

I am always appalled when I see any dog owner letting their dog(s) run loose in an area where coyotes roam free. Next time I see pajama man, I will be sure to tell him that!! His parents need to block off the fence gate area so that the dogs can't get out!

And I'm getting some pepper spray for protection!

My Story
I’m a man of strong faith but a very practical man as well. I’ve always wondered at the fanciful stories I’ve heard of people receiving messages from God and I often wondered if they were authentic or simply embellished feelings of someone seeking a message. That was until last Saturday. As I was driving down the road on Saturday afternoon I suddenly felt a presence around me. I really couldn’t explain it nor have I felt it before but I sensed that Jesus had something to say to me. I got a series of chills and tears began to form. I don’t remember thinking anything as much as I was just sort of listening. Suddenly I noticed this car in front of me that had bumper stickers that conveyed frustration with Obama and his policies and I heard a voice simply say to me that “the work Chris is doing is important.” Nothing more, just that. I know in my heart that it was not my inner voice talking to me but a message from Him. I remember feeling that I was being asked to support my wife in her efforts and to trust in Him. I simply prayed, “I will.” It all happened very quickly but I remember it very distinctly. My wife has asked me to share this story so in support of her I pass it along.

Memorial Day Memories and Messages

Today is May 30, 2010. It has been fifteen years since my dad passed away (at the young age of 72) from mesothelioma - an inoperable form of lung cancer that is usually contracted as a result of unprotected exposure to asbestos. He was a wonderful dad. A tireless and determined provider for our family. As a brave World War II veteran, he was a member of The Greatest Generation.

You can read about my Memorial Day Memories from 2008 by clicking this link. Included in that post is the account of the salvation experience of my dad while visiting him back in January, 1995. The experience resulted in a miraculous event that you can read about in my post True Ministry.

The following is a partial list of some of the Memorial Day essays and tributes written and shared by several blog roll authors. More to share tomorrow.

The Joy of Celebration Begins!

Last evening, I arrived home at around 7:00 p.m. after purchasing a few last minute gifts for my family. I left the house at 11:00 a.m., with every intention of getting home much earlier in the day. But as it turned out, I was gone for 8 hours! Eight precious hours that should have been spent more wisely. Oh well, at least I got the chance to meet my daughter and share lunch out at a restaurant with her. It was probably the first real meal that she has eaten since getting her wisdom teeth extracted on Thursday. My advice? Don't have anyone in your family get their wisdom teeth out around any holiday season! I lost four days of decorating, shopping, and preparing for Christmas Day as I helped nurse my daughter and watch movies with her. After all, caring for her at this time was more important. No need to go into the details of her pain and suffering. Due to the office being closed, we had difficulty reaching her surgeon by phone until yesterday to get some answers to several questions we had about her recovery. Though we felt guilty about doing so, we finally called the emergency number provided by the answering service. However, the surgeon was kind enough to call during his trip to Disneyland with his kids!

My daughter is much better now and improving each and every day. Thank God!

When I looked around our house last night I realized that all we had on our Christmas tree were the lights. There was one Nativity scene set up, but no Christmas village. My favorite Nativity set was still in one of the boxes that line our hallway. I haven't even found the stockings which are to be placed above our fireplace! I mentioned to my husband that we must be one of the most dysfunctional Christmas decorating families ever this year! No outdoor lights were put up at our house while most of the rest of our block have gorgeous lighting arrangements neatly in place. At least I put the wreaths on our two front doors!

Today will be spent finishing some of the decorating and wrapping gifts. It won't be the usual amount of holiday decorations, but the most important ones will finally be set up.

Just before turning the multi-colored lights off of our tree last night, I thought that despite our lack of decorations around the house this year, our love for the Lord and our celebration of His birth will not be minimized. After all, He is the Light of the world and the focal point of tomorrow's celebrations. Despite what the secular world wants people to think, Jesus is the reason for the season!

I have a decorated hand painted sign up that reads, "Keep Christ in Christmas." It is a constant reminder to us about what is truly important during this holiday season.

The birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ changed history forever. His birth, life, ministry, death on the cross and bodily resurrection to life is the true hope that we have in this world filled with turmoil. Faith in Him and the realization that He keeps his promises demonstrates to us that we can place our full trust in him! He will never leave nor forsake us! All that had been prophesied about him in the Bible before his first coming has been fulfilled! We now await for him to return and take us unto himself at the Rapture - which will occur in the blink of an eye!

As born-again Christians, there is nothing to fear about what man will do to any one of us. Though we are mocked, disparaged, hated, cursed, discriminated against, persecuted, and even killed for our belief in Jesus Christ, NOTHING can take us away from his eternal protection for our souls. When we die (or are killed), it is a fact that Jesus has taken each of us away from evil. The world is filled with evil, but we are to have no fear of those who would kill the body. Our eternal souls are in the caring arms of Jesus Christ - FOREVER!

While driving home last night, I heard a portion of a repeat broadcast of an interview between Sean Hannity and Anne Graham Lotz. The subject of death came up and Sean mentioned that "he's not ready to go just yet." He wants to see his children grow up, marry and have their own children. He's not done with all he needs to do and wants to do on this earth. Many people feel the same way, of course. But we don't know how many days the Lord has given to each of us. Any one of us could die tomorrow. Or, perhaps we will live to age 90! We just don't know. However, if you (and I) would live each day as though it was our last, what would you be doing? That's a great question to answer!

Anne Graham Lotz mentioned the Scripture verse that tells us how beautiful heaven will be. She compared our lives here on earth like being in the foyer of a great cathedral. Compared to the awesomeness of the cathedral, the "waiting area" before entry into the beauty of that place can't compare. It is a good analogy as to what it might be like entering into eternity.

But no matter how beautiful we could imagine heaven will be, seeing Jesus Christ and being with Him forever will make the "place" pale in comparison. After all a house is not a home without the people whom you love - and who live in it - sharing that home with you...Amen?

It is Christmas Eve! The joy of celebration begins! God bless!

Wondering Where I've Been?

Hello peoples! I apologize for the lack of posts lately. It all started about two weeks ago. Two members of my family and I attended the wedding of a relative in Virginia on Memorial Day weekend. We had a nice family reunion there. Two days after returning back home, I had three guests fly out to visit with us for a week. This included several days of visiting beautiful areas here in San Diego! Next, we had a college graduation celebration and party. Shortly after our company left, all four of us attended another wedding of a relative in Syracuse, New York! Enjoyed the wedding and the fun family reunion! Just returned home today! Whew!! I'm exhausted!!!

I will be back to my usual blogging form within the next two days. I have a LOT OF BLOG READING and reporting to catch up on!

Christine

P.S. At one family reunion, a liberal relative who lives in New Hampshire got angry when someone said something against Obama's policies. She said, "Don't anyone bash Obama! I worked for him (presumably...during the campaign)." Another Republican relative quipped back, "Yeah...we all work for him now!" Ha ha ha haaaaa!

Politics are always a touchy subject at family reunions. My children were SO PROUD of me for not speaking my mind about Obama. Didn't have to. Aunt Sue's husband Doug was doing a marvelous job with his great comebacks! Ha!!

Replying to Anonymous

So far, I have received one comment on my last post. It was posted by an "Anonymous" person. Gee...I wish that the person had the courage to reveal himself/herself to me and blog readers. If he/she [hereafter identified as "C"] is so sure and proud of his/her opinion(s), then why be secretive about one's identity?

From the sound of it, it appears to be someone who has been reading my blog for quite some time.

"C" states that my posts have been very different from the ones of the past. That may be quite true. We are living in different times right now. The "change" that Barack Hussein Obama has brought to our government is very dangerous, in my view, and as a Christian Conservative who loves her family, friends, church, fellow Christian believers, country and God, I have the right to express my displeasure with what I see as the absolute wrong direction for our country.

Keep in mind, as you read the comment, that I am not the only one who has expressed these kinds of concerns. I am - by no means - alone in this fight for our country. It appears to me that "C" wants me (and all who disagree with Obama et al) to just sit back and let Obamafraud, Congress, the courts, and their cronies run roughshod over the people of this nation.

The TEA Parties show how a vast number of people (growing every day) are seeing how far our government has moved away from the U.S. Constitution. They see how far our government leaders (from BOTH parties) have moved away from what the Founding Fathers of this nation intended.

If anyone saw Glenn Beck's program today on Fox, I hope you will comment. It will be on again at 11:00 p.m. tonight. I encourage everyone to record, Tivo, DVR or sit there and watch it. In fact - I encourage you all to record it so that you can watch it again. There was also a webinar discussion at Glenn Beck's website after the show. Much more was shared there that I think would have been great on the show!! [Note: You can view the "after the show" discussion by going to the above website and clicking on "Web Exclusive - Because 60 minutes wasn't enough, Beck's '9/12' special continues online."]

In the audience were ordinary, every day people who usually NEVER congregate to protest (peacefully) as they did at the hundreds of TEA parties across the nation on April 15, 2009. The people who attended were not just Republicans. They were not just Democrats. They were not just Conservatives or Moderates or Liberals or Libertarians etc. They were of all ages, colors, creeds, ethnicity, income status - you name it. What they all had in common was the fact that they DON'T LIKE THE SPENDING that our current government is doing in Washington.

They were the people who were calling - 1,000 to 1 AGAINST the TARP bills when Bush was in office and against the Stimulus Pork Bills that were passed when Obama got into office. Their Congresspeople and Senators WERE NOT LISTENING TO THEM! What are these Congresspeople and Senators in Washington for?

THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT US - WE THE PEOPLE!!!

Not their special interest projects or their political "life" (e.g. Arlen Spector who betrayed all the people he was supposed to represent in Pennsylvania!) at the expense of OUR HARD EARNED MONEY BEING WASTED ON 9,000 EARMARKS AND PORK PROJECTS that gluttonous "leaders" think is more important than giving the hard earned tax dollars BACK TO THE PEOPLE WHO PAID THEM!!!!!

As was stated by one college student during the show - yes - there is some spending that may be necessary (recall that the Republicans had an alternative bill that was half of the Democrat version which would have cut a lot of the pork out) but even he had to agree that what Obama and Congress did was WAY TOO MUCH SPENDING!!!

Several of the people in Glenn's TEA Party group on T.V. expressed their absolute horror at the trillions of dollars of debt being loaded onto the backs of our children and grandchildren!!!

Ah...I could go on and on but you get the picture.

So...to Anonymous...please realize that my last post was meant to stir debate about how odd it is that this man - Barack Hussein Obama - was not vetted properly by the DNC, Congress, and all those involved with both campaigns and the Electoral College. If you bothered to read all of the links, you would have seen that the writer shared possible reasons why John McCain was silent on this issue, as well.

Was it all a huge conspiracy theory?

That author seems to think so.

From what I have seen through the inaction of the courts (and the stalling tactics of Obama's team of lawyers spending over a million dollars to hide a $10.00 vault-length COLB from the public) there is proof that Obama has something to hide.

What that is - is not known - yet. But one day the truth will come out. It always does.

As was pointed out by several bloggers, the COLB isn't really what we all really should be focused on. The FACT that if Barack Obama Sr. is really Obama's father - then there is NO WAY that Obama Jr. could ever be a "Natural Born Citizen" as required for POTUS by the U.S. Constitution. Just because his supporters want to think that "native born" (if, in fact, Obama Jr. was born in Hawaii) is the same thing as "Natural Born Citizen" doesn't make it so.

I will probably have more to say later. For now, here is the comment in its entirety:

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "How Deep is the Obama Rabbit Hole?":

I don't understand all of this melodrama with your prayers of anguish. It seems to me you already have your answer. Continuing to beg God for a different outcome is like a child begging his parent for 5 more minutes before bedtime. They were given an answer. Just because they didn't like it doesn't mean it's going to change.

It amazes me that you would never even consider that the reason there won't be a hearing is because there's no need for one. You wanted so much for a republican to be elected, even one who lies and commits adultery, that you've demonized anyone who isn't a republican. Of course you're not getting answers - you're not listening.

The president has an approval rating of over 63% - higher than both Bush and Clinton at this point in their presidencies. That rating includes 46% of republicans, and those numbers are up from just a month ago. They don't come from US media outlets either. Those are from Iranian news outlets. That way you can't blame it on the media too.

I feel very sorry for you. You've convinced yourself that there is some vast conspiracy involving thousands of people, and you've also convinced yourself that there is some mass movement to recall the president. You're wrong on both accounts. God gave you your answer. You just refuse to listen. Wonder how that's going to work for you.

I really feel bad for you. You're going to spend the next 4 years of your life bitter, angry and in anguish because you refuse to see that no mistakes have been made. Everything really is as He intended it. Read your blog posts for years back and read your new ones. You're not the same person, and the change hasn't been for the better.

P.S. Anonymous - I wouldn't be so bold as to "speak for God" as you have taken upon yourself to do. This reveals to me that you are probably not a Christian. All the more reason to avoid claiming that "I'm not listening" to God.

However, if I am in error and you do consider yourself a Christian, please read the Book of Esther in the Bible; especially chapters 2 through 8. Maybe it is you who is not listening to God!

Our pastor recently shared the story of Esther to illustrate the example of how standing up in courage can save lives.

Even in the midst of horrible discrimination (like what recently happened to Miss California at the U.S.A. pageant because she had the courage to stand up for traditional marriage to the mocking, cursing and disparaging disdain of a gay judge), God rewards those who stand up for His Word, the Bible, and His Son, Jesus Christ - even when it is not "politically correct" in the culture to do so.

Back to Esther.

The Biblical life of Esther, a Hebrew orphan living in exile, teaches women to overcome plights like discrimination, harassment, and persecution. Such things have plagued humankind for centuries. As long as fallen human nature exists, many ills will be expressed against people.

Esther had the courage to obey her uncle, Mordecai and approached the king (her husband) without being "summoned" which back then was a reason for the death penalty. But when she heard that her race was to be exterminated by the king's order, she promised Mordecai to petition the king and uttered those immortal words, "If I perish, I perish" (Esther 4:16). This cause was greater than her life!

What courage she had!! To stand up before "the powers that be" in her time in order to save the Jewish race!

Although the book of Esther doesn't mention God directly, we see him move powerfully through her to save the entire Jewish race.

You see, God uses PEOPLE - ESPECIALLY CHRISTIANS TODAY - to accomplish His purposes on this earth.

Many fellow Christians see the need for action to face down the intimidation and situations that the current government is doing. We are to act in integrity before God (which is what was done at the TEA Parties - there was no violence or any arrests for misconduct!!!) to petition our government for redress of grievances - which is guaranteed in our United States Constitution.

Being a Christian does not mean sitting on our hands and doing nothing when we see our nation going in the wrong direction. Perhaps God is urging us towards action for "such a time as this!"

I truly believe that in my heart of hearts!

This requires great strength.

But as Christians, we have the mind of Christ and the power of God to overcome every obstacle. Ultimately, God is the victor! God within us guides us! He will make a way for us.

Using an acronym for the word "STAND" Pastor Miles McPherson shared the following during the service last Sunday:

Stare down courage. (see Esther 4:15-16)

Trust in truth, never the lie. (see Esther 4:13)

Accept God's Sovereign provision. (see Esther 4:16)

Never fear man over God. (see Esther 4:11)

Die to self. (see Esther 4:16)

There is nothing wrong with praying to God in any situation. In fact, it is the most effective measure we can utilize during our lives here on this earth.

Comments in agreement or disagreement are welcomed as long as you don't take the name of the Lord in vain, curse, be vulgar, or exhibit hatred, abuse, harrassment, or persecution. In other words - let's be civil.

Congrats Charlie!

I'd like to take this opportunity to share with readers here how very proud I am of my son! He has been named "Trainer of the Month" at Fitness Together!

The following is a portion of the newsletter announcement:

Charlie works very hard around the studio and helps out in many ways, but mostly his clients think he is motivating, fun and gets them to their fitness goals. Here is a quote from Charlie's client Linnea Goodrich.

"I can honestly say that Charlie is the main reason I am so committed right now. Having started with him before my accident, he is aware of my potential and has been able to tailor my workouts specifically to me. It has been challenging for both of us to keep our sessions interesting since I was so physically limited in what I could do. He has been my biggest fan in cheering me on every step of the way, knowing exactly when to push me to do more and understanding what I can not do. He really knows how to motivate me and has done a great job with playful competitions between my Dad and Mikael and me. (since he trains all three of us)"

Another client, Ken Coley, has this to say about Charlie:

In July of 2008 I came to Fitness Together with some very specific goals. I wanted to loose about 17-18 pounds, 2 inches on my waist, to gain flexibility and strength, and generally wanted to improve my overall health. Charlie did a fitness and diet evaluation. He then designed a workout program and a healthy diet for me. I was working out 2-3 times a week and also exercising on my own. Within 6-8 weeks I was at my desired weight and I went from a 36" to a 34"trouser size. Charlie was great at working with my special needs. With tendinitis in my right shoulder and sciatica in my right hip, he made sure I worked those areas in a way that gained strength but did not further any injury or pain. I traveled extensively during that time, so Charlie would recommend workout programs for me when out of town. Charlie then changed my workouts to focus more on strength training. I have maintained my desired weight while gaining strength and flexibility. Charlie did a great job of working with my personal needs and goals, while making the entire process fun and challenging. Thanks Charlie and Congratulations on being named Trainer of the Month.
