Mary J. Blige Confirms New Album & VH1 Behind The Music Feature

After being under the radar for the past year, Mary J. Blige is set to come back with another album along with a slew of new projects this year. Mary took time off from recording opting to collab with new talent like Trey Songz, Drake and Ne-Yo instead. The Hip-Hop Soul Diva is finally ready to make her tenth album My Life Too, The Journey Continues. Buzz has been building for her new album ever since she performed alongside Drake and Swizz Beatz at last year’s VMAs.

"Swizz [Beatz] and I [are] in the studio cooking up something real nice," Blige told MTV News backstage at the VMAs when asked about her new album. "[It will be] more like [What's the 411?] and My Life. It's headed [in] that direction but in a new [way]. Not what it used to be."

My Life Too, The Journey Continues will be the sequel to Blige’s 1994 album My Life; the triple platinum selling album will be hard to match, but if anybody can do it Mary J. Blige can. The album’s first Someone To Love Me features Diddy and Lil Wayne giving us that soulful and upbeat feel reminiscent of Blige’s previous masterpieces.

Mary J. Blige also has a slew of other projects brewing besides the album; Blige will play the lead role in Nina Simone’s biopic Nina as well as co-starring alongside Tom Cruise in the upcoming film Rock Of Ages.

VH1 confirmed Blige will be featured in the upcoming seventh season of VH1 Behind The Music examining Mary’s struggles to find success among other things. "This episode… will take a look inside the life and outstanding career of Mary J. Blige, the reigning Queen of R&B. Watch as VH1 captures the story of how faith, courage and a never-ending search for love and contentment helped one of the world's most talented musicians survive a tumultuous past," the network said.

Mary J. Blige: Behind The Music premieres July 27 at 10 pm ET on VH1 while My Life Too, The Journey Continues will hit stores September 20, 2011.
