Atheists Sue To Prevent WTC Memorial Cross Display

This morning, I read a post over at The Blaze: Atheists Sue to Stop Display of Cross at World Trade Center Memorial.

A group of atheists is up in arms over the display of a cross at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. The World Trade Center memorial, which is intended to serve as a reminder of the tragic terror attack that occurred nearly 10 years ago, is scheduled to open on the event’s 10th anniversary.

When the Twin Towers collapsed on September 11, 2001, two beams perfectly formed the cross, which many view as both symbolic and iconic. It is this object — a steel cross — that is perfect fodder for atheists and non-believers who do not wish to see any religious items included in the memorial.

I would expect Mayor Bloombutt to sign the complaint, but Gov. Chris Christie? What a huge disappointment! Christie has lost my respect. During the video, the brother read a letter where someone claims that “we all worship the same God,” and that includes Muslims. Well sorry – but that statement is incorrect. Of course, the writer has the right to say and believe what he/she wants. But it doesn’t make it true. How ironic it is to realize that Bloomberg approves of the 9/11 mosque being built, but objects to the display of this cross at the memorial! Unequivocal bias anyone?? Muslims and atheists probably have more in common because both obviously worship a different kind of god – a humanistic one.

I saw the RINO progressive try to distance himself from his own remarks on Hannity last night. Fat chance! Hannity wasn't fooled and neither are GENUINE CONSERVATIVES! I heard that Sharron Angle stated that McCain just "through her and his former running mate, Sarah Palin under the bus."

The thing that this debt crisis debate is bringing out for all to see is just who in the Republican party are genuine Conservatives that support the principles and values of what the TEA Party Patriots are trying to do to correct the corruption and stop the out-of-control spending in Washington D.C. Was McCain blind to the results of the 2010 mid-term election? Ah! It grieves me to see him do this.

But one comment over at The Blaze jumped out at me. It actually makes McCain look quite foolish on this issue:

He obviously hasn’t read the Tolkien series, because if he had, he would know that the Hobbits were the only ones with any courage, and that they persevered in the face of all sorts of evils, betrayers, and nay-sayers, and eventually brought down the most powerful evil empire in existence that, if they had not destroyed it, would have conquered the whole of middle earth.

Obviously, McCain has no concept of “courage” or “principle”.

It's All For Him

Today is Good Friday. In previous years, I have written posts that have discussed
 What Was So Good About It?,
 Utter Darkness (or so they thought),
 Calvary,
 Good Friday and

 The Power of Christs' Cross.


Once again, I have found an intriguing devotional in the December-January-February 2003-04 "Our Daily Bread" booklet that gives us a glimpse of God's own interpretation of history. 

I love this phrase, "Jesus is the final and complete explanation of everything."

When we study the Bible and think about that phrase, we come to realize that "It's All For Him."

 I would like to share it with readers today.

It's All For Him

Read: Colossians 1:13-20

All things were created through Him and for Him. - Colossians 1:16

It's a little phrase of just two words at the end of Colossians 1:16 - "for Him." Yet that little phrase gives God's own interpretation of history. In those two words He affirms that Jesus is the final and complete explanation of everything.

All that has happened and ever will happen is moving through time toward that climactic hour when every tongue will confess the lordship of Jesus Christ. Every knee, whether in grateful adoration or under compulsion, will then bow to Him (Philippians 2:10-11).

British historian H.A.L. Fisher apparently did not share that view. He sadly confessed, "Men wiser and more learned than I have discovered in history a plot, a rhythm, a predetermined pattern. These harmonies are concealed from me. I can see only one emergency following upon another as wave follows upon wave...nothing but the play of the contingent and the unforeseeable." [Note from Christine: Isn't that an utterly sad way to think and live??]

What about you? Are you overwhelmed by what seems to be the aimless sequence of events? If so, look once more at Jesus--His life, death, resurrection, and promised return. Sharing The Bread Of Life

I just began reading Max Lucado's latest book, "Outlive Your Life - You Were Made to Make a Difference." It was one of the gifts that my son bought me for Christmas. Since I had two other books to read before getting to this one, it has taken me two months to start Lucado's book.

I really enjoy Lucado's writing style. He always places some humorous anecdotes in his books while revealing profound truth about living the Christian life that Jesus would have us live. Even though I am only on page 40, the book has already had a great impact on my life.

After reading several pages of Lucado's book, I decided to go online and read what has been published on some of my favorite blogs. However, I got that usual annoying message that my borrowed laptop was "in need of repair." I wanted to skip over that, so I clicked on the choice "start windows manually." Well, after looking at a blank dark screen (except for the tiny "Microsoft" trademark message at the bottom of the page) for fifteen minutes, I decided it might be a good idea to listen to the recommendation to start up using the repair mode. So, I shut the computer off, restarted it, and this time I clicked on the "start up repair (recommended)" icon.

After watching the repair message at work for what seemed like 15 more minutes, I clicked on the choice to "cancel repair." Well...I must have waited too long because the message I got said something like this:

"The current repair session cannot be cancelled."

Lucky for me, it only took about five more minutes for the repair to be completed. I still had a bit of trouble. My computer was supposed to restart on it's own, but nothing was happening so I shut it off myself and then restarted it.

I thought about the statement, "the current repair session cannot be cancelled" and thought of God's mercy and grace through the cross of Christ. It must have been because I was reading Max Lucado's book that I drew a parallel between the computer message and God's message to mankind.

I have often stated here at this blog that Mercy is God withholding what we do deserve, and Grace is God giving us what we don't deserve. The gospel of salvation through the cross of Christ is the world's "current repair session that cannot be cancelled."

In chapter four, Lucado shares a humorous story about going on an errand, at the request of his wife, to buy bread at the grocery store. When he gets there, he collects his favorite cereal, milk, Oreo cookies, barbecue chips (does this guy love junk food or what??) and some ice cream. He checked out and went home. His wife looks at the purchases and then asked, "where's the bread?"

Max had forgotten the big item.

"The one thing I went to get. The one essential product. I forgot the bread."

Lucado goes on to write:

Might we make the same mistake in a more critical arena? In an effort to do good, we can get distracted. We feed people. We encourage, heal, help, and serve. We address racial issues and poverty. Yet there is one duty we must fulfill. We can't forget the bread.

Peter didn't.

Now, listen to what I have to say about Jesus from Nazareth. God proved that he sent Jesus to you by having him work miracles, wonders, and signs. All of you now this. God had already planned and decided that Jesus would be handed over to you. So you took him and had evil men put him to death on a cross. But God set him free from death and raised him to life. Death could not hold him in its power. (Acts 2:22-24 CEV).

[Peter] would eventually speak about poverty. The church would soon address the issues of widows, disease, and bigotry. But not yet. The first order of the church's first sermon was this: pardon for all our sins. Peter delivered the bread.

[Would] you consider the offer of Jesus? "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again" (John 6:35 NLT).

Max Lucado gives us some insight into what it takes to make bread.

The grain-to-bread process is a demanding one. The seed must be planted before it can grow. When the grain is ripe, it must be cut down and ground into flour. Before it can become bread, it must pass through the oven. Bread is the end result of planting, harvesting, and heating.

Jesus endured an identical process. He was born into this world. He was cut down, bruised, and beaten on the threshing floor of Calvary. He passed through the fire of God's wrath, for our sake. He "suffered because of others' sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones. He went through it all--was put to death and then made alive--to bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18 MSG).

Bread of Life? Jesus lived up to the title. But an unopened loaf does a person no good. Have you received the bread? Have you received God's forgiveness?

What an awesome and powerful analogy!

Our God is a God of second chances! If we will simply believe that Jesus is who He said He is - the Son of God, Savior and Lord, and we confess our sins at the foot of the cross of Calvary and accept him as Lord and Savior of our lives, we will be forgiven and saved. People, make sure that you receive the Bread of Life of Christ Jesus. The ONLY Bread of Life that really matters now and will ultimately matter in eternity.

Someone very dear to me and my family passed away in January. I can't know for sure if this family member was saved, but I tried my best to witness to her over the course of 15 or more years.

I usually do not share detailed personal information at this blog, but I will state that in the eulogy that I wrote for the funeral, I was led to share the gospel of Christ for the sake of the people attending. I do not know if what I said encouraged anyone there who is not yet saved to receive the Bread of Life, Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior. Perhaps a seed or two were planted. However, when someone dies we realize just how brief this life on earth truly is. The Bible tells us that "it is but a vapor" compared to eternity.

Once a Christian receives the Bread of Life, it is our duty to pass it on. Max Lucado writes:

After all, if we don't, who will? Governments don't feed the soul. The secular relief house can give a bed, a meal, and valuable counsel. But we can give much more. Not just help for this life but hope for the next.

[So] along with cups of water, plates of food, and vials of medicine, let there be the message of sins forgiven and death defeated.

Remember the bread.

The secular world climate these days reveals an open hostility towards Christianity in general, and Jesus Christ in particular. Despite the fact that believers are often ridiculed and hatred is constantly being hurled at us, we must turn our distress, sadness, and fears into boldness so that we continue to be faithful ambassadors for Christ.

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, "Come back to God!" For God made Christ, who never sinned to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:19-21 NLT).

Why Humankind Needs the Savior

Way back in May of 2005, I created a post over at my Talk Wisdom Forum entitled, De-homosexualization of the Catholic Church. Ever since, GMpilot has been obsessed with the subject matter. Read through the thread and you will know what I mean.

The thread began with the following observation (plus a copy of an essay at WorldNetDaily - go to link above to read WND essay):

I have to admit that prior to reading this article, I did not know the genuine reason why Pope John Paul II was not more condemning of the homosexual pedophile priests and the Cardinals who shuffled them around to other churches where such priests, unfortunately, were enabled to molest more and more young boys. This scandal absolutely sickened most of the public and the suffering of the victims was just horrendous!

I just couldn't understand, for the life of me, why Pope John II acted indifferent towards the scandal. I wasn't aware of the genuine reason he refused to believe that it was actually going on. The following certainly explains a lot and helped clear up the mystery:

When sex is not permitted to express itself in its proper way, it will always eventually express itself in an improper way. The more it's suppressed, the nastier it blooms. No Satan necessary.

I must admit, "So, who needs Satan?" is an interesting question. In reality, an entire book could be written in reply to such a question. Readers, feel free to share your thoughts about that.

Rather than addressing that particular question [mostly because Satan is, unfortunately, often used as an excuse by those who repeatedly choose to sin. You know - the ole' "the devil made me do it" syndrome], I chose to reply utilizing the Gospel message:

If the priests were after normal sexual relations, they wouldn't be performing homosexual acts with male children or young teenage and pre-teen boys. Why weren't they going after the beautiful women - who were of the age of consent - from the pews of the churches? Answer: because they were in homosexual/pederasty/pedophile lust for teens and boys.

Those priests who went after pre-pubescent girls were also pedophiles.

But all of this is pointless to discuss with you. You seem to think that because there are priests who are fakes - all must be fakes as well. During my childhood, I learned about a pedophile priest in our church. I only knew that he went after pre-pubescent girls, but perhaps he attacked some boys too. It was all hushed up and they named a street after him in town after he had died.

I also knew of a wonderful priest who kept his celibate vows and was wonderful (in an appropriate manner and way) to all parishioners - especially the children. He died 10 years ago and had a monument placed in a small existing park that was later named after him. There were benches there that were donated by members of the church. He was deeply loved.

There are people who try to live good lives, and there are people who don't. We all fall short of the glory of God. Recall the "good" test I told you to take? No one passes that test. If anyone ever claims that they did pass it - then you know that they lied.

This is why humankind needs the Savior. Jesus Christ was the only sinless God-Man who died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins of all who repent of their sins and believe in him.

Jesus Christ is the living example of mercy and grace through God.

Mercy is God withholding what you (we all) deserve.

Grace is God giving you (all) what you (we all) don't deserve.

There is evidence of grace being bestowed upon unbelievers and even the wicked in this temporal world. Some repent and turn to Christ, others don't. However, the choice to reject Christ (and his mercy and grace) prior to dying negates the chance for salvation after death.

Despite the fact that some who don't believe in Christ seem to have success in this life, it is an entirely different story [according to the Bible] when such individuals die without Christ. Why? Because they have chosen to reject God's mercy and grace for salvation. Therefore, they choose to leave this world to live in eternity separated from God forever.

God has done all that is necessary for salvation. Our job here on this earth is to either accept or reject His provision.

A Moment of Silence

When remembering all of those who lost their lives due to the radical Islamic terrorist attack on that tragic day of 9/11/01, the best words shared are those spoken in prayer; especially for the loved ones who still grieve for them nine years later.

To the astonishment of recovery workers at Ground Zero, the Cross appeared miraculously from the wreckage on the site of the former World Trade Center.

Why the Hatred Over Mojave Cross?

Yesterday, I heard that the Mojave Cross, which had been previously stolen by an anti-Christian kook, was replaced with a new replica of the original cross. Today, I wake up to find out that the Feds will promptly remove it.

JammieWearingFool (just love that blog name!) has the story.

Excerpt:

I agree with the guys over at TAH, this case of the Mojave Desert cross is entering into the theater of the absurd. The latest update is that a replica cross was constructed and erected while waiting for the original cross which had been stolen to be recovered.

Of course the loyal federal government employee of the month candidate has to come out and say not so fast.

The National Park Service said in a press release Thursday afternoon that the replica cross would be removed.

Late Thursday, Mojave National Preserve spokeswoman Linda Slater told reporters in California that the new cross is illegal and must come down.

So let me get this straight. According to the twisted logic of this government bureaucrat only the original cross can go back up. If the original cross is never recovered, then a criminal has accomplished what the liberals couldn't through the force of the courts and they are alright with it.

Why all the fuss over a war memorial cross?

Why would those who choose not to believe in Jesus Christ, the Bible, the Gospel of Christ, and the message of the Cross be so hostile towards those who do believe?

Why does the existence of a cross at a war memorial, which had been there for 75? years, bother them so much that they have to fight tooth and nail to get it down?

The Bible tells us why:

1Cr 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

When a person wants to reject the power of God, it is only fitting for them, in their unrepentant mindset, to also reject the message of the cross. Those who think that the cross of Christ is 'foolishness' still must have the agonizing feeling within their hearts, minds, and souls that they are perishing - both physically and spiritually. It is as though they have a void in their lives that can't be filled in any other way. It is the vacuum of the soul that can only be filled through the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

2Cr 4:3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,

2Cr 4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

2Cr 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake.

2Cr 4:6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.


2Cr 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward [man] is being renewed day by day.

When the Bible says that our "inward man is being renewed day by day," it reminds us that we are not perfect. And, this side of heaven, we never will be. But we are called to preach the Gospel, as imperfect as we are, because Jesus Christ, in whom we trust and desire to share with others IS PERFECT.

2Cr 2:15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

The "fragrance of Christ" is interesting to consider. We often think of fragrance as being pleasant - and most of the time a fragrance that we like is pleasant to smell. However, have you ever sniffed a fragrance and said "ewww!!!"? I have. There are some fragrances that other people like that I can't stand. That is what I think this verse means. The fragrance of Christ's power and might; his call for man to repent of their sins; and the ultimate redemption that he has provided for us at the Cross of Calvary is reviled by those who reject Him.

However, with a change of heart, any person who once reviled Christ can repent and turn to Him, making the fragrance of Christ the most beautiful experience in the world!

Recall the thieves on the crosses at each side of the cross of Jesus Christ:

Luk 23:39 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, [fn] save Yourself and us."


Luk 23:40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?


Luk 23:41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong."


Luk 23:42 Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, [fn] remember me when You come into Your kingdom."


Luk 23:43 And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

One of the two thieves, both of whom at first mocked Jesus, turned and repented right there on the cross. And Jesus told him that he will be with Him in Paradise.

Who in their right mind would turn down such saving grace?

Jesus is knocking on the door of the hearts of the unsaved each and every day. The messages that you read, first and foremost in His Word, the Bible; and on blogs, websites, in Christian authored books, at Bible believing and following churches, in devotionals etc. are just a few of the ways that Jesus is reaching this fallen world.

I read a great story sent to me via email a few days back. (Hat tip to Janet H. for sharing it with me!) Read what this little child said to a nurse who placed the disk of a stethoscope on his heart and the hearing apparatus to the child's ears:

A nurse on the pediatric ward, before listening to the little
ones' chests, would plug the stethoscope into their ears and let them listen to their own heart. Their eyes would always light up with awe, but she never got a response equal to four-year old David's comment.

Gently she tucked the stethoscope into his ears and placed the
disk over his heart. 'Listen', she said...'What do you suppose that is?' He
drew his eyebrows together in a puzzled line and looked up as if lost in the mystery of the strange tap - tap - tapping deep in his chest. Then his face broke out in a wondrous grin and he asked,

'Is that Jesus knocking?'

Godly wisdom - out of the mouths of babes!

Jesus told us that until we become like little children - we will not see the Kingdom of Heaven.

Mat 18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"


Mat 18:2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them,


Mat 18:3 and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.


Mat 18:4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.


Mat 18:5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

What do little children do? They TRUST. They follow the lead of the parents and trust them for their well-being. The same is true of us in regards to our Father in Heaven. Until we humble ourselves and trust God for His Perfect Provision of reconciliation over sin, death, and evil - the Cross of Jesus Christ and His subsequent Resurrection from the dead - then we will not see the Kingdom of Heaven.

We are then called, by the Great Commission, to go into all the world and preach the Gospel.

2Cr 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.


2Cr 4:8 [We are] hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair;


2Cr 4:9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed--


2Cr 4:10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

2Cr 4:13 And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," [fn] we also believe and therefore speak,


2Cr 4:14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present [us] with you.


2Cr 4:15 For all things [are] for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.


2Cr 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward [man] is being renewed day by day.


2Cr 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding [and] eternal weight of glory,

I have already expressed my opinion and disgust about the thief (or thieves) of the Mojave cross theft in this post. If this anonymous writer thinks he/she/they will get away with this, they are in for a BIG surprise. He/she/they will be CAUGHT AND PROSECUTED! BARSTOW • An anonymous caller, claiming to know the details of the theft of the Mojave Cross, contacted the Desert Dispatch newsroom at around 4 p.m. Tuesday. He said he was not directly responsible for the cross’s theft, but knew who was. He told a reporter that the person responsible for the theft wrote up the following explanation and statement regarding the removal of the cross. He asked that the Desert Dispatch to print the statement in its entirety.

We make no claims to the validity of the origins of this statement. We concluded, however, that the short time between the reporting of the cross’s theft and the receipt of this lengthy statement signified at least a strong connection. We are passing along this information in the hopes of illuminating what might have happened:



"1. The cross in question was not vandalized. It was simply moved. This was done lovingly and with great care.

2. The cross has been carefully preserved. It has not been destroyed as many have assumed.

3. I am a Veteran.

4. A small non-sectarian monument was brought to place at the site but technical difficulties prevented this from happening at the time the cross was moved to its new location.

5. The cross was erected illegally on public land in 1998 by a private individual named Henry Sandoz. Since then the government has actively worked to promote the continued existence of the cross, even as it excluded other monuments from differing religions. This favoritism and exclusion clearly violates the establishment clause of the US Constitution.

6. Anthony Kennedy desecrated and marginalized the memory and sacrifice of all those non-Christians that died in WWI when he wrote: 'Here one Latin cross in the desert evokes far more than religion. It evokes thousands of small crosses in foreign fields marking the graves of Americans who fell in battles — battles whose tragedies are compounded if the fallen are forgotten.' The irony and tragedy of that statement is unique.

7. Justice Kennedy’s words in particular and others like them from the other Justices caused me to act.

8. At the time of its removal there was nothing to identify the cross as a memorial of any kind, and the simple fact of the matter is that the only thing it represented was an oddly placed tribute to Christ. This cross evoked nothing of the sort that Justice Kennedy writes of, it was in the end simply a cross in the desert.

9. Discrimination in any form is intolerable, as is hatred.

10. Discrimination or hatred based upon religion should be despised by all Americans, and offering that this event was caused by hatred or malice is simply ignorance of the actual intent.

11. Despite what many people are saying, this act was definitively not anti-Christian. It was instead anti-discrimination. If this act was anti-Christian, the cross would not have been cared for so reverently. An anti-Christian response would have been to simply destroy the cross and leave the pieces in the desert.

12. We as a nation need to change the dialogue and stop pretending that this is about a war memorial. If it is a memorial, then we need to stop arguing about the cross and instead place a proper memorial on that site, one that respects Christians and non-Christians alike, and one that is actually recognizable as a war memorial.

13. If an appropriate and permanent non-sectarian memorial is placed at the site the cross will be immediately returned to Mr. Sandoz.

14. Alternatively, if a place can be found that memorializes the Christian Veterans of WWI that is not on public land the Cross will promptly be forwarded with care and reverence for installation at the private site.

15. In short this has happened because as Abraham Lincoln said: 'To stand in silence when they should be protesting makes cowards out of men.' Perhaps this was an inappropriate form of protest if so I humbly request your forgiveness and understanding for the actions that I have taken here."

Beware The "Social Justice" Trap

When there is so much evil being thrown at us and dangerous overt (as well as covert) actions oppressing our nation by this current insane government, it is often difficult to focus on just one of the many subjects that need our attention. I hope that readers here took the time and effort to view Glenn Beck's show yesterday. The email newsletter said:

Glenn has repeatedly said to watch the other hand. What has that other hand been up to lately on health care? Glenn has the amazing exclusive tonight. Don't miss it at 5pm on The Fox News Channel.

If you didn't watch the show, then you will continue to be ignorant about the America-killing scam that is Obama/Reid/Pelosi HELLcare. There is NO WAY that what was revealed by Glenn on his show (and at the Big Government.com blog) is purely coincidental. The FACT that the "plan" being pushed on an unwilling public was written by a lefty lunatic derelict in prison should awaken any, and all who are not in a stupor or under the influence of the ObamaBORG Kool-Aid. The "health care scam" being pushed by Obama, Pelosi and Reid is just another example and extension of the Alinsky's rules for radicals manual.

While posting at other blogs, I often see the Obots ranting about racism and hatred. Most do not bother to address the issue(s) at hand. They just continue to attack the messenger(s) of the truth.

Here at this blog, I have received some quite nasty comments. Sometimes I post them - just to prove that they exist. But when someone comes along and has no point but to disparage, why should I subject my readers to his/her drivel?

The criticisms against me are often directed at my faith of Christianity. I get the "a Christian would never say that," or, "what would Jesus think about you being so racist towards Obama," or, when I point out how homosexual activists are ruining the minds of children, I get the "you are full of hate" mantra.

Let me ask readers here a question. What does the following mean?

"We . . . that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves." C.H. Spurgeon

During Glenn's show, he mentioned that many churches are now being infected with "the social justice" mantra. It was number 8 on the list.

Here's a summary about it:

Again, they've enlisted Andy Stern and SEIU to mobilize their arm-twisting effort, as well as convincing rabbis and pastors to preach the health reform gospel from the pulpit. Ask yourself this question: In the last six months, have you heard this message come from your pastor, priest or rabbi? If so, point number 8 has been achieved. I have been on major church Web sites. I couldn't believe what I was seeing: Within three clicks you are at HCAN!

An extreme example of the social justice trap would be Jeremiah Wright's church in Chicago. We all can recall the recorded rantings of Obama's former co-called "pastor." I have to put that title in quotes because I know of not one single pastor (who genuinely follows Jesus Christ, studies God's Word, and preaches the Gospel) who would EVER utter such vile words and spew such terrible and unbiblical rhetoric the way that Wright did for 20 years to his congregation.

There are those who are much less extreme, but also use the "social justice" mentality to skew (or eliminate) the need for mankind to acknowledge his/her sins, confess and repent of them at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ, and ask Christ into their lives as Savior and Lord.

The sanctification process following conversion to Christ continues throughout one's lifetime here on this earth. It requires discipline, prayer, adhering to Christ's commands (e.g. If you love Me, keep my commandments), reading, studying and applying God's Word, sharing the Gospel "in season and out of season" and listening to the leading of the Holy Spirit of God as He guides you unto all truth.

As I have stated many times at this blog, before one can know the Good News of Christ's Gospel, we must all face the bad news of our sinful condition. Otherwise, how can we be restored to God if we don't repent of our sins? It is impossible!

The following portion of a C.H. Spurgeon devotional explains further:

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.--Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, [see that ye] love one another with a pure heart fervently.

Did you notice the terms "unfeigned love" in that second paragraph? It means genuine love. Genuine love tells the truth about what is needed to save our souls from death. How do we do that? By "converteth the sinner from the error of his way" and thus "purify[ing] our souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit."

We are told to "bear ye one another's burdens." That means having a heart for the unsaved, even though they may revile you in the process of your sharing the Gospel with them. We cannot convert - God alone does that - we can only share the Gospel Truth with sinners about their sin [which we all are guilty of without Christ's sacrificial death on the cross...which is the only way we can be forgiven for our sins] and continue to pray that they will let Him into their hearts to save them.

All must answer Jesus' question: "Who do you say that I am?"

I have found that social justice advocates often label biblically-based Christian believers as "hateful," "unchristian," "unloving," and not "like Christ." Don't be fooled (or moved in the wrong direction) by this rhetoric. It is designed to take away the focus of their own sin problem and hurl it onto those who are attempting to witness the true Gospel of Christ to them!

Spurgeon:

Yea, all [of you] be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

We ought to be humble. As that 1970's song lyric tells us, our bodies are nothing but "dust in the wind." Yet, many people today unfortunately pay much more attention to their finite and dying physical bodies than to their eternal souls!

Being "clothed with humility" is the way God "resisteth the proud." Jesus' ministry on earth was the perfect example of this. Despite all the good and miracles that Jesus did, there were still "proud" people who rejected him. Recall how he was hated, spat upon, called names, reviled, mocked, whipped, and ultimately crucified by those who did "not know what they were doing?" Jesus is willing to forgive anyone - if they will humbly come to the cross of salvation and repent!

I will now conclude this post with last evening's devotional. I pray that it speaks to your heart as much as it spoke to mine when I first read it.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!

We are about 30 minutes away from sitting down to our Thanksgiving feast! I wanted to put up a brief post to share with visitors and friends who frequent this blog.

I, as well as every Christian, am most thankful for Jesus Christ. Everything else that I am thankful for...my family, friends, fellow Christians, and acquaintances proceed from Christ.

This morning, I read a portion of Dr. David Jeremiah's new book, "Living With Confidence in a Chaotic World" where he explains the importance of focusing on Jesus' connection to you (me, us).

Dr. Jeremiah writes:

Colossians 3:1-4 reads, "If then you were raised with Christ....your life is hidden with Christ...you also will appear with Him in glory" (emphasis added).

I've highlighted the word with to show just how critical it is in this frame of thinking. With is a word of connection, our lifeline to Christ. When He died, we died with him. When He was buried, so were we. And we shared in His glorious resurrection, so that now we can be seated in the heavenlies with Him.

When the Bible says that Jesus died for us, it doesn't mean simply that He died in our behalf; it means He died in our place. He died where we should have died. Just as Adam was the personal embodiment of our fall into sin, Christ is the personal embodiment of our salvation and glory. "For as in Adam all dies, even so in Christ all shall be made alive" (1 Corinthians 15:22). We fell with Adam, but we were resurrected with Christ.

Do you see the importance of that little word with in our spiritual destiny? The great Chinese Christian preacher and writer, Watchman Nee, grasped it. In 1927, he had been struggling with issues of temptation and his sinful nature. One morning he was sitting upstairs reading the book of Romans, and he came to the words, "Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him..." (6:6). For Nee, it was as if the words had come to life on the page. He leaped from his chair, ran downstairs, and grabbed a kitchen worker by the hands. "Brother," he shouted. "Do you know that I have died?"

The worker only stared in puzzlement. Nee blurted out, "Do you not know that Christ has died? Do you not know that I died with Him? Do you not know that my death is no less truly a fact than His?"

It was all Watchman Nee could do to keep himself from running through the streets of Shanghai, shouting about his death and new life. From that day on, his faith was confident and strong. His biographer wrote that it was impossible to say anything that might offend Nee. Why should he be offended? That Watchman Nee was long since dead!"

How powerful is Nee's testimony? Extremely powerful!

I think that this is where the divide between liberal Christian thought and Biblical Christian thought (that was partially articulated in the Manhattan Declaration) takes that proverbial 180 degree turn. If one hasn't died to self in Jesus Christ, then one cannot possibly experience the amazing phenomenon of dying with Christ.

Dr. Jeremiah continues:

Charles Spurgeon had his own way of explaining this:

I suppose that, if you were to meet your old self, he would hardly know you, for you are so greatly altered. I dare say he would say to you, "Come, old fellow, let us go to the theater, or turn into this beer-shop, or let us go home, and find out some way of amusing ourselves."

You would reply, "No, sir; I cut your acquaintance a long time ago, and I do not mean to have anything further to do with you, so you may go about your business as soon as you like. I am not what I was, for I have been crucified with Christ, and I am dead, and my life is hid with Christ in God."

That is what the Cross of Christ achieves for every believer! The old you is dead and in the grave; the new you is raised to walk in newness of life, and to live victoriously for Christ.

It is for this reason that no matter what transpires on this earth - we can have the utmost confidence to stay centered with Jesus Christ in our hearts; as our lives are hid in Him in God!

More GMPilot Rationalizing - I see....

Before my blogging days, I posted quite regularly at my Talk Wisdom message board. There was a small group of regulars who posted articles, links and comments in the various categories included at the forum. Once I began blogging on a regular basis, I didn't really keep up with the forum. In fact, the spam registrations over there were so annoying (and time consuming to remove), that I shut down the open registration. They don't seem to want to give up! Their links are immediately deleted, so why do they waste time with it?

You neglected to quote the correct title - it's "RATIONALIZING God's Latest Felony."

You claim that my other forum is "almost hopeless." Yet, you still read there. So, one must conclude that you like to rationalize what you personally deem as "almost hopeless." Hmmmm...I find it interesting that you don't find what I write and/or share as totally hopeless. That is how most atheists/skeptics/anti-Christian minds often think. They find their "hope" in the "things of this world" - including the current bogus POTUS.

But still, some atheists/skeptics/anti-Christian minds have been turned towards God's Truth. Some eventually figure out that the things of this world are useless to them after they die. They figure out that all that they strive for on this earth provides only temporary fulfillment - if any - at all. Graveyards are filled with formerly rich people (and/or famous) who some would have said, "had it all." However, many of them lived miserable lives while rejecting the only true Hope in the universe - Jesus Christ.

It's funny. On the one hand you wish me a "happy anniversary" regarding this site. Then, you proceed to mock the beliefs that I and other commenters share here and at the blog. Well... it's not surprising. Jesus himself told us that our faith in him would be cause for ridicule. He also stated that the real reason for the mocking is because [they] "hated him first." There is a poignant message in his words. Not only do the unsaved disbelieve that Jesus is who he said he is - the Son of God, Savior, King and Lord - but they also hate him without a cause. But you go even further - don't you GM? Yes. You do. You personally hate him because of your twisted notion of God having committed a "felony" against man because of a tsunami. Why not blame global warming like most clueless liberals do? You would make Al Gore proud if you did!

I don't know whether or not you read a recent post that I wrote on the blog last Sunday. Within the post, I mentioned this:

I was reading in Max Lucado's book - "Traveling Light" - that even when the time for our physical death on this earth arrives, it pales in comparison to what Christ endured for us on the cross.

Lucado explained via a story. He mentioned that in Psalm 23, David wrote, "Yea though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me."

Then, he asked a child who was fearful of the concept of death (something that we are all destined to do) if he would rather be run over by a bus or by the shadow of a bus. The child answered - "the shadow of the bus." Lucado continued to explain that the child answered correctly. And, it is because Jesus took the sins of the world upon himself and that Christ experienced the "run over by a bus" kind of death, that we wouldn't ever have to experience such a death. Instead, we will pass through "the valley of the shadow of death." This is another way to say that we do not die spiritually because of what Christ has done for us! What a marvelous Savior we worship and belong to!!

I thought that was a great analogy to put forth the point that Christ's sacrifice for our sakes was the greatest event in human history! And, his subsequent resurrection from the dead shows us that his word is absolutely true! We can confidently trust him with our very lives!


No other spiritual leader ever claimed to die for the sins of mankind. No other savior could prove exactly who he was by rising from the grave. Jesus was the only one who accomplished that!! Therefore, we can trust him wholeheartedly with our lives! We can trust in his promises! Like this one:

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
The book of Ephesians, Chapter 5 discusses the fruit of the Spirit. Verse 8 informs us that were all "sometimes[in] darkness. But now, as born again Christians we are now "light in the Lord." The light [meaning holiness, righteousness] shines from Jesus Christ! To walk as children of light, we are to be reflectors of HIS LIGHT [righteousness, holiness]! This is why no one can brag about anything within ourselves. All glory, honor, thanksgiving, and worship belongs to Christ alone!

Here's a verse that humbles each and every believer:


Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
But we are brought back from our uncleanness through the Lord:


Eph 5:8 ¶ For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth
Eph 5:10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

So, as I had stated previously within the "Rationalizing God's Latest Felony" thread, you are sorely misunderstanding the point of life on this earth. And, since you are missing that, you are also misunderstanding the reason for physical death.

Whether it's being "run over by a bus" or "dying by tsunami," the fact is that because of what Jesus Christ did for us at the Cross on Calvary, we only experience "the shadow of the valley of death." That is, if God is with you through the Person of Jesus Christ.

Has not God Made Foolish the Wisdom of this World?

Have you ever genuinely thought about and contemplated the meaning of the following Bible verses?

1Cr 1:27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;


1Cr 1:28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,

The current political climate in the United States of America demonstrates the truth of those verses. Anyone who has been paying close attention sees this. Tomorrow, I will post about commentary that has appeared on news channels and in a major weekly magazine that will show you just how "foolish things of the world [do] put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty."

For now, let's look at the Bible verses surrounding the above two:

1 Cr 1:17 analysis:

I have seen many examples of people trying to make "the cross of Christ should be made of no effect" literally come true. Even those who would label themselves "Christians." The liberal leftist churches are most guilty of this. There is a huge reason why they do this. It is because they want to ignore the need for repentance.

The cross of Christ is shameful to "those who are perishing." Why? Because Jesus' finished work at the cross of Calvary points to their need to confess sin and turn their lives over to Christ. They want to remain in the center of their existence, instead of putting Christ there.

The question is, however, how do we get them to turn around when they think that they are not in error? Please share your suggestions and experiences in the comment section.

Then we have those who have not been brought up in the church at all. Their parents are either agnostic, atheist, or just skeptics. Maybe the child of such parents had dabbled in other religions - like say - Buddhism. Maybe they think that all religions lead to the same place. But the Bible tells us this is impossible for Christ himself stated,

"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me."

In this "tolerance at all costs" atmosphere (including rejecting genuine concern about where one will spend eternity); and our current multi-cultural, diversity-driven, religious coexist-demanding society, Jesus' words might be considered "intolerant." But is that the real problem? I don't think so and the Bible tells us why.

Examine this verse:

1Cr 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Those who reject Christ's sacrificial death on the cross for their sin are perishing. They think it is foolishness. But look at how that verse completely changes the concept of "the message of the cross [as] 'foolishness'" to be the power of God to us who are being saved!

Now, man has his/her own version of "wisdom." However, when it is not of God, for God, and about God - such "wisdom" is confounded!

1Cr 1:21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

In the prior verse, Paul asks:

1Cr 1:20 Where [is] the wise? Where [is] the scribe? Where [is] the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

When man relies on his own version of wisdom [e.g. "the wisdom of this world"] we see that God has called it out and turned it around as foolishness. So, just what is considered the most foolish kind of man's "wisdom"?

1Cr 1:21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

Answer: Not knowing God.

Then, look at this verse:

1Cr 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

How many people have tried to make Christ's sacrificial death at the cross a type of "foolishness" and have tried to either combat against such belief or trick people into believing something else as the truth? Probably millions.

What does it mean that "the weakness of God is stronger than men?"

I think that it means that those who perceive Christ's death at the cross as "weakness" or "foolishness" is ultimately and emphatically stronger than the wisdom of those who think that way.

Paul says it this way:

1Cr 1:22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;


1Cr 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks [fn] foolishness,


1Cr 1:24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

What in the world could possibly be better than KNOWING "the power of God and the wisdom of God?"

That particular knowledge is Jesus Christ!

Paul instructs us:

1Cr 1:26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, [are called].

As Christians, what are we called to do? Preach the gospel, of course. What else? Jesus told us to wait for his return, watch for his return, and WORK as we wait for his return. Each of us have unique skills and spiritual gifts that enable us to work in many different ways to point people towards Jesus Christ. Christ does the saving - we are here to spread the message of the gospel "to those who are perishing."

Each situation may be different and we need to be wise in how to handle it.

For example.

I often give people the book "Traveling Light" by Max Lucado. It helps to ease them into wanting to know more about Jesus Christ. I have also given Bibles along with the book to those who I know probably don't have one.

I recently gave that book to one of my daughter's friends who, in her young life, has been going through a rough time over the past several years. She wrote the following to my daughter:

"Your mom gave me this book, and I think her just simply reaching out to me has changed my life. Tell her I said thanks. And I love you both!"

I sent a text back to my daughter: Wow! Really? It changed her life? I'm crying - tears of joy. Praise God - He did that!

And He did!! He opened the door of her heart to receive the "wisdom of God" instead of the wisdom of men which had not been helping her figure out the truth and the meaning of this life. I can't wait to see her again and talk with her about the book!

So far, I haven't had anyone tell me that they didn't like that book. Of course, I haven't given it to any "stranger" who might have objected and called my gesture "proselytizing" - which is that negative word that skeptics like to use against Christians for simply sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with people.

We can't let their negativity, objections, and threats stop us from sharing the TRUTH!

There are MILLIONS of people who don't know Christ and just need someone to reach out to them so that they CAN get to know Him!

We are called to point people towards salvation in Jesus Christ.

God does the saving!

We can pray for the unsaved, invite them to church, talk with them, listen to them and participate in Bible study with them. Why should we do all of these things? Because they are "those who are perishing." The acceptance of the gospel message is between them and God. We do the sharing - He does the saving. Ultimately, all the glory belongs to the Lord!

Paul:

1Cr 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption--


1Cr 1:31 that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD." [fn]

Another Deception Towards Hell

I love it when Christian bloggers comment at my blog. It helps remind me to see what they are writing about at their own blogs. I especially enjoy visiting new Christian blogs and adding them to my blog roll.

Recently, Ken of The Bumbling Genius blogspot wrote a comment here at Talk Wisdom. I went over to that blog and found his latest post entitled, Hell, The Ultimate Offense.

Excerpt:

(1) There is only one way by which we may receive the eternal mercy of God, the first step being that we realize our dire need of it. By down playing that need we do save from offense, but we do so at the expense of a far greater one; for nothing can be more offensive than an eternity in Hell.

(1)While we do not have the choice of pointing out that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God, it is not my intention to suggest that Christians behave in a manner consistent with the caricature of Christians that exists today. This image was perfected in the pit of Hell, and there will never be anything that the church will be able to do, barring abandoning the cross and sin altogether- as many churches have done-to win the approval of a ardently anti-Christian culture.

Great post! And SO TRUE! The current "I don't want to offend anyone by talking about sin" modus operandi is (unfortunately) on it's way to becoming the express train of modern Christian thought. People may think that such a worldview is an "enlightened " way to "do church." But the reality is that it is just another one of Satan's ploys to keep people out of Christ's Kingdom.

The truth is, such a mentality is just another deception and ticket to hell.

That quote at the end of your post says it all!!

Years ago, I ran across commentary that stated, "beware the crossless gospel." Such a terrible error (and heresy) is becoming more and more prevalent in many churches today.

The Bible tells us the truth about each and every matter. God's Word tells us that the cross is offensive to those who are perishing.

2Cr 2:14 (NLT) But thanks be to God, who made us his captives and leads us along in Christ's triumphal procession. Now wherever we go he uses us to tell others about the Lord and to spread the Good News like a sweet perfume.


2Cr 2:15 Our lives are a fragrance presented by Christ to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those being saved and by those perishing.


2Cr 2:16 To those who are perishing we are a fearful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?

Calvary

Yesterday evening, I glanced through the menu of cable T.V. channels searching for any movies about Jesus Christ. I found one. It was a mini-series called "Jesus" on TBN. Since I have the video of this series, I didn't record it.

I don't know about you, but it seems to me that with each passing year, there are less and less movie presentations on T.V. of portraying Jesus' life, death, and resurrection during the holy days.

I can recall seeing dozens of Jesus movies and Bible epics on T.V. at Easter time during my teen years. Everything from "Ben Hur" to the "Ten Commandments" to "King of Kings" was broadcast between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. On Good Friday, there were usually several different movies shown commemorating Christ's crucifixion.

What has happened?

Why do the networks refuse to show these important films anymore?

Late this morning, I watched Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." This was the fourth time I had viewed the movie, but the first time that I watched it alone. Each time I see it, the message of the cross hits me like a ton of bricks.

It is a movie that I cannot get through without crying. The grief felt by me for my sin which Jesus died for is often to much to bear. I find myself wanting to fast-forward through the scourging and crucifixion scenes - but I do not allow myself to do that.

The term "passion" originally meant "suffering." Today, it is often used as a romantic term related to sexual attraction or activity. But the "passion" of Jesus Christ was the suffering he endured for all of mankind's sins on the cross.

In the beginning of the movie, we find Jesus in the Garden praying to the Father. We also see Satan (appearing in the form of an androgenous being) trying to convince Jesus that taking on the sins of the world is too much for one person to bear. It can't be done.

Isn't that just like Satan? Claiming that the God-Man Jesus can't do the work that God the Father sent him to do. Satan tries the same thing with believers. Recall how he asked to sift Simon Peter "like wheat."

What a great scene it was in the movie to see Satan in his pit screaming and tearing his hair off because Jesus accomplished the goal of redemption for mankind. All of that suffering brought glory to the Father and salvation for all those who believe in Jesus. What a moment!

One of the most touching scenes was when Jesus' mother Mary reached him when he had fallen down while carrying the cross. There was a flashback in the movie to a time in Jesus' childhood where he had fallen and Mary ran to pick him up and to cuddle him and ease the pain. In this instance, there was nothing that she could do but briefly touch his face, look into his eyes, and hear her son say, "Mother, I make all things new."

What a powerful, powerful moment. This time, Jesus was SAVING HER -and all of us from the ravages of sin, evil and death!

As we remember your death at the cross, Jesus, let me say THANK YOU MY LORD AND SAVIOR! There is no greater love than for a man to lay his life down for his friends. Jesus did that. And, he rose again on the third day. He willingly went to the cross, and had the power to take up his life again. The horrible suffering and sorrow of that day turned to rejoicing on that first Resurrection Sunday - just as Jesus had previously told us it would:

John 16:20-22

Jhn 16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.


Jhn 16:21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.


Jhn 16:22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

The Power of Christ's Cross

The brutality of Jesus' crucifixion was captured in the film, "The Passion of the Christ." Why was Jesus tortured, maimed, spit upon, beard torn, whipped beyond recognition, stabbed in the side, nailed to a cross, humiliated unto death? Because that is exactly what evil does. God allowed those forces of evil to do what they did in order to send us a message so strong that we couldn't possibly miss it.

The enemy of our souls has the goal of devouring us in our sin. He prowls around like a roaring lion, bringing along with him evil, sin and death. That very thing was conquered by Christ at the cross. Because he was the "sinless Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world," he accomplished what no ordinary man could ever do. He kept the Law while on earth, then paid the penalty for our sin so that we would not suffer an eternity without him! He was bodily resurrected to life on that first Easter morning approximately 2,000 years ago, and that event changed the world forever.


Why Did Jesus Have to Die?

At Calvary's cross, we stand at the crossroads to heaven and hell.
