Blatant Intolerance by the Homosexual Agenda [Update]

Yesterday, I received an email alert from Randy Thomasson regarding the REAL reason why Carrie Prejean was FORCED OUT BY FIRING her from her title as Miss California. This was done by the director of the California pageant, Keith Lewis, who is also (surprise!) a rabid gay activist.

Before I present Mr. Thomasson's essay, I want to share one of the comments that I received over at my "Protect Biblical Marriage" blog post entitled Gay Activist Haters & Cohorts Finally Got Their Way:

Miles appeared on Larry King Live the day the firing of Carrie announcement was made. He explained that Carrie HAD NOT breached her contract. She was fulfilling the duties that were being asked of her.

Lewis, in a similar manner as what the serpent in the garden of Eden did - tempted the luring of a young woman to do what she knew was against the God's will in order to keep her "earthly" crown. That is just despicable!!

I agree. The big picture here is the blatant intolerance of the homosexual agenda, which PUNISHES anyone who disagrees with them.]

But I do not think that this is the end of the story. A lawsuit will get the truth out. I hope that Carrie goes through with it. She has an iron will - especially when she was so viciously verbally attacked and even got DEATH THREATS from the gay mafia. I see her as a young woman who has the strength to go through with a lawsuit, if she chooses to do so.

I have heard her speak at The Rock Church. She would not go through with the lawsuit for personal gain. She would do it for the sake of free speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of association - all rights that are guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

Why Carrie Prejean lost her earthly crown

First, a homosexual activist “judge” kept Carrie Prejean from winning the Miss USA contest.

Next, the homosexual “marriage” activists who led the California pageant tried to get Carrie fired, but Donald Trump said no.

Finally, the homosexual activist director of the Miss California Pageant persisted and got rid of Carrie.

Keith Lewis, the director of the Miss California USA Pageant, is an open homosexual and obviously very insecure. After Carrie said on national TV on April 19 that marriage is only for a man and a woman, Lewis said he was personally offended. For weeks, he campaigned unprofessionally, publicly and continually attacking Carrie and aggressively lobbied Donald Trump to fire her.

Lewis’ anti-natural-marriage campaign showed its venom on May 11. That’s when Lewis and then-co-director Shanna Moakler (who strongly believes in homosexual “marriage” and was a Playboy centerfold) held a Beverly Hills news conference blasting Carrie for “unauthorized” speaking engagements at her church and at a traditional marriage news conference, as well as Carrie’s lingerie and swimsuit photos, and called for her to be fired.

The next day, May 12, pageant owner Donald Trump directed everyone to “make nice” and said Carrie would keep her crown. But what does oil have in common with water or light in common with dark? The 12-page contract Carrie signed is horrible and gave Keith Lewis so much power over her.

The day after the “unity event” in New York, Moakler and Lewis came back to California. That same day, Moakler resigned from her pageant post to protest Carrie keeping her crown. And Lewis began “keeping a file” on Carrie in an effort to eventually fire her himself.

That takes us to now.

There’s every indication that Lewis had daggers in his eyes for Carrie ever since she said she doesn’t believe in homosexual “marriage” like he does.
And there is evidence that Lewis tried to muzzle Carrie from speaking at events of her choosing. Email transcripts between Carrie and Lewis suggest he had a problem with her speaking at the Special Olympics, while, at the same time, suggesting she pose for Playboy and appear on grungy “reality TV” shows.

If Carrie were my sister, I would have encouraged her to quit a few weeks ago. She had “appealed” the bad conduct of her boss Keith Lewis to a higher judge, Donald Trump, the owner of the pageant. But Lewis kept his job and kept targeting Carrie. Apparently, the animosity of a homosexual activist against those who disagree will never agree to peace.
Quitting would have put Carrie in the driver’s seat. She could have told America how she stood on principle about her public appearances and had to quit rather than give up her principles. Why agree to have your free speech controlled by a homosexual activist who hates you and targets you for your stand on marriage?

But look what’s happened. Keith Lewis and Carrie’s detractors aggressively rode the media circuit the first 24 hours of this story. While Carrie was hiding from the media that day and turning down interview requests, she was publicly labeled a contract-breaker. By not anticipating the firing and not doing media, Carrie was called the bad guy and the homosexual activists cheered. Twenty-two-year-old Carrie needs better public relations advisors!

To many, this is a case of “he said, she said.” America clearly witnessed and understood the first intolerant homosexual attack from Perez Hilton upon Carrie during the Miss USA Pageant. But now that another homosexual activist, Pageant Director Keith Lewis, has attacked Carrie on a technicality, which involves details about public appearances that are cloudy or at least unclear. America can’t correctly judge this.

Through it all, Carrie has been given an incredible platform and opportunity to speak for God’s truth. My hope is that Carrie will seek God’s biblical wisdom for her next step. Personally, I would like to see her reject fleshy beauty pageants and the lusty photos she’s posed in, which, so far, she’s defended. It would be helpful to America for her to write a book that honors what God created – the natural family and moral standards for sexuality – and championing the American ethic of free speech.

But most of all, I hope Carrie will take some time to grow deeper in her faith and in everything seek to be a holy example for girls and young women. I don’t want teen girls to dream about strutting on stage for a beauty contest or taking risqué photos or getting breast implants like Carrie did. God created women to be much better than that.

Liberal Taliban Issues Fatwa Against Miss California

Not even Dick Cheney can incite the blood-curdling rage of liberals at the sight of a sexy Evangelical Christian. Paula Jones, Katherine Harris, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and, most recently, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, have all come under a frenzy of attacks from liberals.

Christians are supposed to be fat, balding sweaty little men with bad complexions. It's liberals who are supposed to be the sexy ones. (I know that from watching "The West Wing" and all movies starring Julia Roberts.)

But sadly for liberals, in real life, the fat, balding sweaty little guy with the bad complexion is Perez Hilton and the smoking-hot babe is Carrie Prejean.


This apparent contradiction incites violent anger in liberals, triggering their famous "flight or flight" response. So liberal masturbators are, once again, launching furious attacks on a beautiful Christian in a fit of pique similar to the one directed at Joan of Arc.

First, the Miss USA contest held a press conference to announce that Prejean had breast implants. Take a Christian position in public and Satan's handmaidens will turn all your secrets into front-page news.

Next, a photographer released a single cheesecake photo of Prejean. This prompted liberal reporters who have never met a Christian to proclaim that Christians were outraged by the photo. Liberals believe abortion is a sacrament, but smoking, wearing short skirts and modeling lingerie are mortal sins. (And if wearing women's underwear is a basis for being disqualified from the pageant, that's the end of Perez Hilton's judging career.)

Then on Monday some genuine "semi-nude" photos were released. These were not what we'd call appropriate for a Christian. In a curiously similar attack, the left's final attempt to destroy Paula Jones was to lure her into appearing naked in Penthouse magazine. Oh well.

Christians aren't people who believe they are without sin; they're people who know they're sinners and are awestruck by God's grace in sending his only Son to take the punishment they deserve.

This is in contradistinction to liberals, all of whom believe they're on a fast track to heaven on the basis of being "basically good" people -- and also believe that anyone who disagrees with that theological view is evil.

Finally (so far, anyway), reporters gleefully released the divorce records of Prejean's parents. Because when you want the truth, what is more reliable than angry accusations traded in the middle of an acrimonious divorce?

Liberals used the divorce papers to argue that Prejean had some deep-seated psychological disturbance causing her to oppose gay marriage. Symptoms of this debilitating illness include a belief in some sort of "god" and a reverence for the Bible.

It's not as if Prejean's special talent in the Miss USA contest was to perform an opposite-sex marriage. (Or, as the president and I call it, "marriage.") She didn't even volunteer her "controversial" views on marriage. Rather, she was asked for her opinion on gay marriage and gave it -- in an answer wrapped in so many layers of sugar it took 10 minutes to get to the point.

"Well, I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised, and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman."

What a vicious hate-monger! Any second there I was expecting her to bust out a "by golly!" or an "oh my gosh!" Angry gay-marriage supporters should be happy they didn't get my version of that answer. It contains some terms you won't find in your Bible.

Liberals wouldn't attack James Dobson with the amount of bile they've directed at a 21-year-old beauty contestant. It's not just Christianity -- it's women liberals hate.

From Jean-Paul Sartre, Pablo Picasso and Bertrand Russell, who treated women -- mostly their mistresses -- like dogs, to Teddy Kennedy and Bill Clinton in our own day, liberals are ferocious misogynists. They share Muslims' opinion of women, differing only to the extent that liberals also support a women's right to have an abortion and to perform lap dances.

You'd be better off in a real burqa than under the authority of a liberal American male.

I'm not sure we needed a psychological profile of Prejean to figure out why she holds the same position on gay marriage as: the president, the vice president, the secretary of state, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards and his mistress, and the vast majority of the American people.

But what is crying out for an explanation is why every bubble-head TV news anchorette from a nice, churchgoing red state ends up adopting the political views of Karl Marx.

From Katie Couric on CBS to Norah O'Donnell on MSNBC, the whole stable of TV anchorettes weirdly have the exact same politics as their liberal masters. It's the ideological burqa women are required to wear to work in the mainstream media. As with a conventional burqa, it enforces conformity and severely restricts the vision.

The only way to protect yourself is to do the liberal male's bidding, as the bubble-head anchorettes do, or stand on the rock of Christianity.

Now, another beautiful Christian has thrown off the liberal burqa, thereby inciting mass hysteria throughout the liberal establishment. Prejean doesn't care. She is blazing across the sky, as impotent nose-pickers jockey for a piece of her reflected light by hurling insults at her.

What The World Can't Take Away from Carrie Prejean

Carrie Prejean (pronounced pray-ZHAHN') has continued to be in the news because of the answer she gave at the Miss U.S.A. pageant which supported the traditional marriage definition of one man and one woman. Ever since then, people from all sides of the political spectrum have been attempting to crush her spirit, condemn her thoughts, actions, and beliefs, and it appears they won't be happy until she is stripped of her Miss California crown. Fail, Prejean! Fail!

The trouble is, they can't take away her faith or her spirit. They can't take away her love for God or His love for her. They can't take away her salvation through Jesus Christ. They can't take away the truth she knows through God's Word, the Bible. They can't surpass the love, support and prayers of the Church (believers everywhere). All of this is far more important than some earthly beauty crown.

I thought of Carrie as I read a devotional from Dr. David Jeremiah. In the November issue of Turning Points: The Urgency, Dr. Jeremiah lays out what our mission (meaning, all born-again Christians) on this earth really is. It involves Jesus' last command - The Great Commission.

No matter what happens with Carrie's earthly Miss California crown, NO ONE CAN TAKE HER ETERNAL CROWN OF LIFE which has been given by Jesus Christ at the moment of her conversion.

God has used this woman in an enormous way. Of course, there are going to be those who hate her for her convictions. However, there are MANY MORE who admire her for her steadfast convictions under a great deal of pressure to compromise her faith.

I know that some Christians believe that she has already compromised her faith because of the photos that have surfaced. But how did Jesus react to the woman who was about to be stoned for being caught in the act of adultery - which could be viewed as a far greater sin?

Jhn 8:2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them.


Jhn 8:3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group


Jhn 8:4 and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.


Jhn 8:5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?"


Jhn 8:6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.


Jhn 8:7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."


Jhn 8:8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.


Jhn 8:9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.


Jhn 8:10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"


Jhn 8:11 "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Notice that "the older ones" dropped their stones and left first. I'm sure that they had far more sins on their own souls than the younger ones.

Notice that Jesus did not condemn her - his mission at this time was to preach confession, repentance of sin and ultimately the way of salvation. Judgment (the ultimate kind) will happen at his second coming.

Also, notice that Jesus did not condone her sin. He declared, "Go now and leave your life of sin."

The next verse in John says this:

Jhn 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Jesus was declaring who he is, his authority given to him by the Father to give the perishing "the light of life." This illustration is a kind of mini-gospel.

Of course, the Pharisees challenged Jesus.

Jhn 8:13 The Pharisees challenged him, "Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid."


Jhn 8:14 Jesus answered, "Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.


Jhn 8:15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.


Jhn 8:16 But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.


Jhn 8:17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid.


Jhn 8:18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."

Notice how each time, the people and the Pharisees had an underlying motive to "trap" Jesus. Their goal was to show him (Jesus) as a "disobeyer" of the Law. There was a definite disconnect with what the Law was for regarding the salvation message Christ revealed at his first coming on this earth.

Similarly, there is a disconnect between born-again Christians and the secular world. The trappings and condemnation of this 21-year-old woman was similar to what the people and the Pharisees tried to do against the woman caught in adultery.

Now, on to Dr. Jeremiah's article.

The article is entitled, "Your Mission...Should You Choose to Accept It." It is based on the opening phrase in the 1960's T.V. show "Mission Impossible."

That title implies that the agent had the option of not taking the assignment. Of course for the sake of the show, he always did.

Dr. Jeremiah writes:

Mission Impossible always created a sense of urgency with the execution of the mission. But what if the secret agent had decided not to accept the mission? What would happen? Well, there would have been tragic results. Evil and violent acts would have occurred without confrontation and good people would have been hurt, lost, or even killed. The consequences of inaction would be dire.

[A]s Christians, we have been given a real mission, a mission that is far greater in importance and urgency than any act of fiction in a television show. You may be wondering, "Where exactly is my case file?" Your case file is no man-made piece of work; you have been given the greatest instructional manual of all time, God's Word.

We have witnessed Carrie Prejean's "case file." We have seen a moment in time where her assignment to be a disciple of Christ and witness for God's Word was tested in front of millions of people during a beauty pageant. She chose to tell the truth about God's plan for marriage and despite tons of criticism, ridicule, disparagement, mocking and hatred being spewed by the lost souls of paganism, she did not budge from her convictions. She has done this - no matter what the cost!

As a born-again Christian, her mission (just as it is for all Christians - if we choose to accept it) is to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ into all the world and proclaim "liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed" by the enemy (Luke 4:19).

You see, Carrie knows, in her heart of hearts, that people like Perez Hilton are under captivity and are being oppressed by the enemy of our souls. Her kindness and unwillingness to attack back at Hilton probably infuriates him even more. This is the way of the unregenerate world. They will do ANYTHING to hide their sin and make it something "good" - that it is not - in order to avoid repentance. The cross of Jesus Christ is offensive to those who are perishing! This is why Christians are hated so much. Jesus warned us that they (the unregenerate in the world) will hate us because they hated him first.

The mission that Jesus has given all believers is The Great Commission. We need to have the urgency to reach the lost who are all around us. However, we have a voluntary mission - each believer can choose to embrace the mission - or not.

Dr. Jeremiah:

And if we don't? The results will be the same as if the agent in Mission: Impossible refused his instructions: evil will flourish and people will be lost.

[T]he Great Commission is essentially the same as Christ's own mission: "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). Before spelling out the Great Commission in detail, He told the disciples, "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you" (John 20:21).

But His mission was not easy. Jesus had moments of anxiety and suffering. Think about him lying on his face in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, Not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39). And remember the mocking He endured on the cross as the crowds sneered, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God" (Luke 23:35).

He easily could have saved Himself, but that would have jeopardized the mission. So He was obedient to His Father's mission, even unto death.

Did you catch what was in the Luke verse above? "He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God."

Recall how Satan had tempted Jesus to not fulfill His mission?

Jesus could have called down legions of angels to rescue Him from that cross.

But he didn't.

Why?

Because he LOVES US!!!

If Jesus had not died for the remission of our sins, then our sins would remain on every soul that ever lived. Jesus would have re-entered heaven alone.

Jeremiah:

And this very same Christ who died and rose from the dead has commissioned us to continue to do His work until He returns. Could there be any higher calling for us? To accept and follow Jesus' commission is the greatest thing we can do with the time He has given us on this earth. What a privilege! What a responsibility!

We are all sinners in need of the Savior. How awesome is it that Jesus has allowed us imperfect sinners to spread His Gospel worldwide?

Jeremiah:

The Great Commission is recorded in similar terms by Matthew (28:19-20), Mark (16:15-16) and Luke (24:47) and alluded to in Jesus' words in John 20:21.

Though the disciples could hardly have understood the depth of the mission they had been given, Jesus' words in John 14:12 probably began to take on new meaning: "He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father." The disciples (past, present, and future) were being commissioned to take Jesus' physical place in the world - to be His hands, feet, and heart to a world growing daily in size.

But Jesus did not leave them powerless to fulfill their mission. He told them he would send a Helper that would abide with them forever. and that Helper came at the celebration of the Feast of Weeks in Jerusalem, also referred to as Pentecost. Jesus had told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received the power they would need to fulfill their mission -- power that would indwell them in the person of the Holy Spirit (John 14:15ff.; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-5).

And what a difference the gift of the Spirit made! The fearful band of disciples who cowered behind closed doors after Jesus' death became men who turned their wold upside down (Acts 17:6) --they and the thousands who joined them day-by-day as the Good News of Christ's resurrection and power spread.

But it would be a mistake to conclude that Christ's mission was given only to The Twelve, His original disciples. That first dozen clearly understood that it applied to all who believe as they went about recruiting other to join them in faith and then in the mission Christ had given them.

No matter which way the decision came down (and I suspect that her pageant crown has been taken away - they already had the Miss California runner-up prepped to take her place); Carrie Prejean is in victory through Christ. In this post update, I would like to talk about the main reasons that born again biblically-based Christians will NEVER accept same-sex marriage as valid. For some background information, I would point you to my sister blogsite "Protect Biblical Marriage" - especially the following posts:

What happened to Carrie Prejean is absolute proof that if national "hate crimes" legislation were to pass, millions of people will find their religious freedoms at risk. So you see, there is much more to this hotly debated issue than originally meets the eye.

There are dozens of blogposts that I could cite from Talk Wisdom about this subject. However, if I had to pick just one, I would recommend viewing the video of Pastor Miles McPherson - Marriage, The Image of God.

That message was given in February, 2008. It was given approximately 90 days before the California Supreme Court overturned Proposition 22 which simply stated, "Marriage in California is recognized as the union of one man and one woman."

In November of 2008, Proposition 8 passed by a majority of 52% of Californians (remember - most people in this state are very liberal) to place marriage as being recognized as the union of one man and one woman into the California Constitution.

Pastor Miles goes through the reasons why the passage of Proposition 8 is so very crucial for religious freedoms today.

Instead of backing up their Miss California winner, take a look at what the "officials" told Carrie to say to the press:

She told the congregation that officials from the Miss California USA pageant urged her to apologize.

Prejean said the officials were worried that her comments would cost their contest financial backing, and they tried to prepare her for post-pageant interviews by discouraging her from discussing her religious beliefs.
“ 'You need to apologize to the gay community. You need to not talk about your faith. This has everything to do with you representing California and saving the brand,' ” Prejean recalled being told.

In one of her T.V. interviews, I recall Carrie stating that if the Miss California organization doesn't think that she represents the state and wants to take back her crown - they can. This young woman was not going to back down! Bravo!!

In my study of the Bible and from various Christian sermons, lectures, and books, I have discovered that there is so much symbolism between God ordained marriage and the relationship between Jesus Christ and the church (all believers).

Marriage is God's idea! It was created by the Creator of the Universe! As Pastor Miles states in the above video, the enemy of our souls wants to poison God's will for our lives. Satan wants to twist the truth of God and make it into something that is the opposite of what God intends for our lives. This is true about ANY sin, by the way.

Notice in the San Diego Union Tribune article (above) that one church (that self-identifies as gay-behavior-affirming) allowed Carrie to have the right to have her opinion on this volatile issue. However, it wasn't left at that. Here's that portion of the article:

At the Metropolitan Community Church of San Diego, a gay-friendly church that holds services in University Heights, members said yesterday that they respect Prejean for standing up for her beliefs and support her right to speak her mind. They disagree with her position or insistence that God's blessing of marriage be reserved only for the union of a man and a woman.

“The Christian message is about freedom – freedom of speech and freedom of choice,” said church member Phil Ouellette.

Metropolitan church board member Bud Cheetham said same-sex marriage should not be scorned under the guise of spirituality.

Notice that Bud Cheetham didn't mention God's will.

Notice that he didn't mention God's Word - the Bible.

Notice that he didn't mention Jesus Christ.

What did he state as his point of reference for his beliefs?

Spirituality.

He stated, "same-sex marriage should not be scorned under the guise of spirituality."

That is poison. That is a distortion. That is placing man's beliefs over God's Word, will and guidance via the Bible.

What is spirituality? It is whatever man claims it to be. It is whatever man wants it to be. It is man's attempt to be his own god. It is a way to send people into a kind of spiritual oblivion - ruled by man's feelings, emotions, sexual proclivities (especially sinful ones), and dismisses God's laws, the true gospel of Jesus Christ, and the reconciliation of God towards man when he/she accepts Christ as Lord and Savior.

All throughout the Bible Jesus is portrayed as the Groom and the church is the Bride. It is a blood covenant (consider the virgin bride), just as Christ's sacrifice was a blood covenant for our redemption.

In marriage, "the two become one flesh" when the marriage is consummated. In typical marriage vows, the pastor often states, "and let no man put asunder" - or - let no man break up such a covenant.

As we reach the culmination of history, there will be an event called the rapture. This is when Jesus returns and believers "meet the Lord in the air" to be with Him forevermore. After the rapture of the church, there will be a "Marriage Supper of the Lamb" in heaven with all saved believers. It will be a celebration like none other.

While here on earth, we are to eat the bread and drink the wine (juice) in remembrance of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for our salvation. The elements represent the body and blood of Jesus Christ. As often as we eat of the bread and drink of the juice - we affirm the Lord's death until he comes again (at the rapture) for his Bride - the church of Christ.

Marriage is a church issue. It doesn't (and shouldn't) have anything to do with the government. Don't be blinded by all these legal maneuverings. It doesn't have to do with what is "fair" - it has to do with what is right! This is why marriage is being attacked.

As Pastor Miles states in the video, "Same-sex marriage is an attack on God's symbol of salvation and the power of His image."

It is a perverted version of God's symbol of salvation and the power of His image.

This is why (perhaps unbeknownst to some) a true, born-again Biblical Christian CAN NOT EVER SUPPORT same-sex marriage. You can't have one foot in the world, and one foot in God's Will for your life without being split apart! Plus, the truth is that you will drift towards one direction or the other. It is impossible to honor God and man at the same time. One will triumph over the other. It's a given.

This is why Carrie Prejean, when asked that question, had to decide between answering the way the worldly crowd would want her to respond in order to win the earthly Miss U.S.A. crown, or, answer from her born-again, God honoring convictions in her heart to please God and have the eternal crown of life as provided through Jesus Christ our Lord!
We know her choice.

A Christian Convo re: Swimsuits & Miss CA [Video added]

Over at Camp On This I got into a conversation about Miss California - Carrie Prejean - and the objections that some Christians bring up about the swimsuit part of the Miss U.S.A. pageant competition. Of course, Christian believers can disagree on issues like this one. Perhaps you might agree with what Byron Harvey has written. However, I felt led to stand up for Carrie's decision to enter into pageantry and state why I (personally) think that the swimsuit portion of the competition should not be deemed as something negative that would take away from her Christian witness.

Very respectfully, Steve, I think that the issue of the very immodest bikini she was wearing is a significant part of the issue here, because in your original post, you laud not only her (laudable!) answer regarding "gay marriage", but you lift her up as, effectively, a role model with many opportunities to share her faith in Christ, etc. If you'd stopped at lauding her response only, I'd agree with you, but I argue that while she may be a fine person in many respects, and gave a gutsy answer, her testimony is compromised by her quite immodest choice in attire. She wanted to be, she said, "biblically correct", which I applaud, but that outfit was anything but, and I think that before we lift her up as a paragon of Christian witness, we consider the quite contradictory messages that she sent on that evening.

Though I'm not sure you're doing this, Steve, I believe it's a shame when Christians "swallow" a lot of stuff just to lift up people who get it right in some ways. I agree with a lot of the things Rush Limbaugh says, but he's no paragon of virtue; similarly, Carrie Prejean's total performance that evening is far more a mixed bag than I think your words suggest.

Thanks, Christine, and I'm eager for Steve's response, but the issue isn't lust on the part of the looker (though her outfit certainly could incite lust easily, it seems to me), but the modesty appropriate for one who is "biblically correct", in her words. For me, it's simple: if a Christian young lady, in any circumstance, asked me, "would wearing this outfit bring honor to Christ, Pastor", there wouldn't be any hesitation: absolutely not. I'm not sure that women sometimes understand the male mind, how quickly men can be led to lustful thoughts under any circumstances, and how readily such apparel worn by beautiful young ladies does so. And don't kid yourselves: it ain't just me, ladies, it's every red-blooded man in America (endemic to our fallen maleness). Here's the bottom line question:
Steve, would you ever encourage a sincere Christ-following young lady to wear such an outfit, under any circumstances? And if not, how does Miss California get a pass, merely on the basis of one great answer?

I can understand your feeling that way. Perhaps the reason that I don't see things your way is because of our gender difference.

With that said, let me see if I can make my point in another way.

Let's pretend that there was such a thing as a middle-aged "Ms. U.S.A. pageant" and I was the CA representative. As a 54 year old woman, I would personally absolutely HATE to put on a bikini and walk across a stage in it. I'd rather wear one like the illustration at the top of this post! Of course my body would NEVER get the same reaction (more like laughter!!) as Carrie's beautiful figure obviously gets! LOL! However, if such an act gave me the possible opportunity to witness for Christ in front of millions (well, probably a lot less would watch it!) of people - then, for HIM - I would do it.

My obviously dopey illustration is meant to show that two different reactions to the "physical" presence of the Christian isn't what matters the most. If I got the same question while standing up there and answered it in a similar way - then both of us would have accomplished a similar end. So, my questions to you are - is one shameful and not the other? Would both be considered shameful?

Carrie Prejean is going to appear at the Rock Church (Pastor Miles McPherson) this Sunday. I will share what she has to say at the service in a future blog post.

From what I have heard her say in dozens of T.V. interviews, she wanted to use the Miss U.S.A. position (as well as her current Miss California role) to share the love of Christ - in any capacity that she can. Therefore, I can safely say that she isn't in pageantry for the wrong reasons.

You may see her answer as just "one moment" of standing up for Christ - but sometimes, that is all it takes to start a spark of a movement for the Kingdom.

Her steadfast faith, courage to speak the truth, grace in fighting back disgusting rhetoric against her with nothing but kindness and goodness, and pointing to Jesus Christ for the reason she lives is a powerful testament and example for young people. Her courage will bring forth many more courageous young women (and men) to speak boldly for Christ - even when a firestorm of controversy and protest might erupt.

Carrie was David to Perez Hilton's Goliath. Her answer didn't physically "kill the beast", but it certainly stunned him! It also stunned many more like him. Those celebrities who took his side came out to share in the bashing party.

Ephesians 6 comes to mind.

Especially these verses:

Great analogy--and I'm sure that the sight of me, a 48-year-old guy, in a Speedo would provoke a similar reaction!

Now, that said, here's what your rationale sounds like; correct me if I miss it: "the end ("speaking for Christ to millions") justifies the means" (dressing in an inappropriate outfit--inappropriate, IMHO, for 54-year-olds and young ladies alike, though one could, I suppose, make the argument that the "lust factor" is lessened when such garments are displayed on us middle-aged folk!). It's never right to do wrong to do right, I believe--and I think Steve believes that--and I think that's what your reasoning comes off as. To use a different analogy, what if instead of wearing a skimpy bikini, she had performed in a talent portion (does Miss USA have such? I don't know...) by singing some suggestive song, rapping out a nice hip-hop tune with its vulgarity instead of dressing so immodestly? I'd hope that you'd agree with me that such actions would compromise her witness, making her words ring more hollow than they might otherwise. As I see it, there's no difference whatever.

I don't mean to suggest, by the way, that Miss Prejean's answer was the only moment of her "standing up for Christ"; I know nothing of her life, and from what you've said, it seems she does so on more than one occasion, and that's great. My only point is that her words are compromised by her immodesty.

I wouldn't begin to presume to question her motives for being in the Miss USA pageant; it may well be that everything she says is true about wanting to gain a platform to speak for Christ. But that's not the point at all; it's not why she did it, but what she did. You suggest that other young ladies might be emboldened to speak up for Christ; I'd counter with the just-as-likely scenario that other young ladies might join in our society's rush to jettison modesty, lowering (still further) any sense of Christian modesty, inciting more young men to lust as they parade their bodies barely clad. See what I'm driving at?

And still dying to hear our friend Steve's take...
