Pro Wrestler Randy 'Macho Man' Savage Dies in Car Accident (BLOG)

Tampa, FL (WLTX) - TMZ.com is reporting that 80s wrestling icon Randy "Macho Man" Savage has died in a car crash.

The celebrity website quotes Savage's brother as confirming that the Savage died in a car collision near Tampa.

A report from the Florida Highway Patrol says Savage's car lost control and collided head-on with a tree at about 9:20 a.m. Friday. The report says he was taken to the hospital where he died.

This incident remains under investigation.

Savage became a national star in the 1980s with the WWF, now known as the WWE. He was pitted in matches with and against such other stars as "Hulk" Hogan.

In the 1990s, he wrestled for the WCW.

The flamboyant Savage was known for wearing large colorful cowboy hats and sunglasses.

Savage also has a brief role as "Bonesaw" in the 2002 film "Spider-Man."

Savage was 58.
