Since debuting the sexed up clip to her single "The Way You Love Me" in late November, singer Keri Hilson has received a lot criticism over how raunchy the lyrics and imagery of the video is. But, it's not stopping her... She addressed the critics, via a recent interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez, but did not offer any apologies, saying she's only saying what "women really think." "I'm just saying what women really think and feel and if I'm gonna be honest about myself, I have to show that side of myself," Hilson said, before explaining her sexy attire. "You can't have a song talking about what it's talking about and not show a little more. It's a love story really." Hilson isn't getting all bad reviews for the controversial clip, the singer says many women are empowered by it and that's good enough for her. "Even though it's gotten crazy, crazy, crazy bad reviews, it's also gotten some great reviews from women who respect it and women who did feel empowered by it," she said. "So that, to me, overshadowed the ones that didn't understand it. I feel good." In the song, Hilson sings lyrics such as "I got that kinda p**** that'll keep you off the streets / Yeah, that's me - just where we wanna be / The way you love me the way you love me (F*** Me)". Still, despite how they sound, she claims the song is actually about being in a committed relationship. "Look, sometimes, this is what we want. If I'm in a room and I'm writing from a girl's perspective, I may be a small percentage of a freak, but I am a freak," Hilson said. "There's a time to be that. If you're being real with yourself -- I'm not talking about giving it to everybody -- I'm in a relationship and I'm saying look, tonight, I don't want to caress. I want you to f*** me tonight!" So there you have it. Controversy can help sell, and if Keri has anything to say about it, she'll continue to push the boundaries. "I believe in artistry and interpretation. Whatever repercussions come, I'm willing to be on that chopping block for entertainment's sake." |
