NEWS ANCHOR GOES NATURAL, RATINGS AND QUESTIONS SOAR!!(VIDEO)

Rochelle Ritchie of WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida decided to let her hair go 'natural' and let viewers see the transformation. During the process, the ratings of Ritchie's show increased. When she first told the idea to the news director, a white man, he had no idea about the process. The news director said," I had no clue this was an issue. I never heard about it, and I had African American friends. I instantly bought into this story. I had not seen this story done. It brings up a safety concern." His only concern was that the viewing audience wouldn't care but the feedback proved positive.

Ritchie also posted her story on a website.
"Making the decision to go natural was not an easy one, especially being a black female reporter. After graduating Western Kentucky University in 2004, I accepted an editor position at a local TV station in my home of Lexington, KY. I had sent out tons of resume tapes hoping to one day be a reporter. But I didn’t get one interview with my relaxed shoulder length hair. One day an anchor, black female, told me I needed to get extensions if I wanted to land a job. I got extensions and made a new tape with my new look and I started getting calls immediately. From there the belief that I needed extensions in order to be hired set in. I spent more money on my hair than anything. In six years I spent $9600, my student loans are $9500, so that should give you an idea of where my priorities were.
“The story about going natural developed while I was having a conversation on the phone with a friend at work. My producer heard me saying, ‘I am going natural, I am tired of wigs, weaves and relaxers.’ She (producer) asked me what I meant by that and I showed her YouTube videos of black women who were on the journey of going natural. She was stunned and said, ‘Rochelle that would make a great story for sweeps.’ I pitched the idea and with her support as well as our female anchor they allowed me to do it. My news director’s response was great. His only concern was just keeping up with the process of my story and hair. My general manager is a great guy and totally supported me as well.
The fear of getting a new job with my new look does not scare me because I believe my work and passion for this business will shine through.
“I have had such an AMAZING response from the community. People of all genders and races have completely supported me with positive feedback. Of course if there were any negative emails my news director does not send those to me. But personally I haven’t gotten one email or Facebook comment that was negative. A matter of fact many of my white and Latino colleagues say I look more professional. I believe this as well. I feel I look more polished and sharp. I also feel like I think better without all that fake hair on my head! lol….
“For my ‘black female reporter hopefuls’ I say let your work show your ability to be a good, excuse me a great reporter. My story is a way for me to pave the way for black women’s hair to be acceptable not just in the professional world but on TV! I would say if you are natural. Keep it neat. And if you are worried about getting a job the fabulous thing is we can straighten our hair for the interview and go back to our beautiful curls when we leave.
“Do I have any regrets? Yes I do. I regret denying my natural beauty. I regret falling into the belief that I needed to look a certain way to get into this business instead of believing in my ability as a reporter. I regret allowing someone to cover me up. But no more! This is me, Rochelle Ritchie a natural, professional and happy television reporter. And I feel more confident now than ever before and look forward to climbing the ladder of success with all my kinky curls.”

Great message, Rochelle and although we're happy she can finally see how beautiful in her natural state, in our opinion, it's sad that Black women are always under the microscope. So WHAT if she cuts her hair?! Nobody would care is her White co-anchor did it. Let natural, weaved up, relaxed or wigged women LIVE! Black, White, Green or Purple...SHEESH!

It's just very sad they Black women have to conform to climb up the corporate ladder.

WIKILEAKS EDITOR NOW ON THE 'MOST WANTED' LIST!??

That's right. If America can't get him to stop Wiki Leaks, we'll just have to catch him in his personal life...

Interpol has issued an arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on sex charges. He is suspected of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion stemming from two separate encounters with women during an August visit to Sweden. Assange has denied the allegations, insisting the sex was consensual.
The warrant comes two days after his whistle-blowing Web site's latest release of confidential U.S. documents.
A police report obtained by the Associated Press shows both women met Assange at a seminar he gave in Stockholm on August 14th. The report shows the women filed their complaints together six days later.

Assange's lawyer Mark Stephens said both women have declared they had "consensual sexual relations" with Assange. "Only after the women became aware of each other's relationships with Mr. Assange did they make their allegations against him," Stephens said in a statement.

SAD: INMATE GETS BEAT WHILE GUARDS JUST WATCH!! (VIDEO and BLOG)

A savage prison beating in an Idaho correctional facility has been caught on tape, showing a young inmate brutally attacked by another prisoner while surrounding guards look on and do not intervene.
In the security footage obtained by The Associated Press, Idaho Correctional Center inmate Hanni Elabed, 24, can be seen being thrown to the ground and brutally beaten and kicked by fellow inmate James Haver for roughly two minutes.
At one point, Haver even takes a break before resuming the attack.
Though Elabed tried to alert the guards to help him, he was ignored until Haver chose to stop beating him, at which point the room was opened and Haver handcuffed.
Medical personnel arrived to examine Elabed, who can be seen in the footage lying motionless on the floor after the attack.
He sustained internal bleeding in his skull and spent three days in a coma, waking up to permanent brain damage and short-term memory loss.
The assault came as no surprise to other inmates who have been in the facility.
They refer to it as the "gladiator school" because of the violent atmosphere, the AP reported.
In lawsuits filed against the prison, inmates accuse the facility of exploiting inmate-on-inmate violence to force prisoners to inform on each other, out of fear that if they don't they will be placed in more dangerous situations.
Prior to being attacked, Elabed claims in his lawsuit, he gave prison officials information that he had seen drug trafficking take place between inmates and staffers, and that he had been threatened by fellow prisoners.
He was placed in solitary confinement so he would not be attacked, but shortly thereafter was returned to a cell with the same prisoners he had just "snitched" on.
He was there for only six minutes before Haver assaulted him.
"This isn't even what we know of as a prison - this is a gulag," Steven Pavar, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, told the AP, which released the video after verifying its authenticity.
Elabed was in a coma for 3 days

Corrections Corporation of America, the company that owns the prison, bashed the AP's decision to post the footage.
"Public release of the video poses an unnecessary security risk to our staff, the inmates entrusted to our care, and ultimately to the public," CCA said in a statement.
The AP reports that a CCA spokesman did condemn the attack, but refused to answer further questions.
Elabed, serving a robbery sentence, was ultimately released from prison early on medical parole because his injuries were too severe to be treated adequately in prison.
"It's almost like Hanni's autistic after this," his brother Zahe Elabed told the AP. "I feel like I'm talking to someone who's 12 or 13 years old."
Idaho Department of Correction officials say they have increased security and oversight over prison officials, but for inmates like Elabed, it is too little, too late.
"[The guards] were spectators," said Elabed's attorney, Ben Schwartzman. "That seems to indicate a level of callousness that I find shocking...It's an embarrassment to the institution and to the individuals."

FAITH PLEADS 'NO CONTEST' TO DUI?!

Grammy Award winning Singer Faith Evans Monday pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor DUI charges stemming from her August arrest at a drunken driving checkpoint near Marina del Rey.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Edward Moreton ordered Evans to serve three years on probation, undergo a three-month alcohol program, pay a $300 fine plus penalties, and not drive with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system, according to Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

The entertainer was arrested Aug. 21 at a checkpoint at Washington and Lincoln boulevards, according to the LAPD.

Chad OchoCinco Johnson confirmed to Ryan Seacrest this morning that he and Evelyn are indeed engaged. According to People"
"Yeah, man ... It's time for me to sit down," he said when Ryan Seacrest asked Tuesday on his KIIS FM radio show if engagement rumors were true.  "Enough is enough. I'm 32, you know, my days are over."

Wow. Everything you've been missing, hunh? Can you focus on not missing the ball? Yea, okay...

Heat-Cavs Matchup on December 2nd - Hype - For the Wrong Reasons (BLOG)

Brace yourself. Three days and counting until touchdown at The Q, where LeBron James will make the most awaited appearance in Cleveland since ... well, since the Cavaliers drafted him in 2003, turning him into an instant civic treasure. And the spectacle will only be surpassed by the buildup, which promises to be both fascinating and insufferable.
Well, maybe it's just me, but is this really a good thing for the NBA?
This game is being hyped and anticipated for all the wrong reasons. Nobody's tuning in to see a potentially classic contest, or a terrific one-on-one matchup, or even a Game 7.
We're watching to see a scorned city give the finger to Public Enemy No. 1.
We're watching to rubberneck at LeBron's expense, wondering if anything more lethal than a boo will fly from the stands.
It has less to do with basketball and more to do with verbal mayhem, or the promise (hope?) of it, anyway.
The game is secondary. The abuse and anger and revenge factor and mob mentality? That's primary. That's the show. That's not the main attraction; it's the only attraction.
Folks wanna know: How will Cleveland react? What will the fans say and do? What about the homemade signs, will they be safe for children to read? Will Dan Gilbert, the Cavaliers owner, bring along his LeBron voodoo doll? Will the sellout crowd blow talcum powder in LeBron's face? Will they stand in silent protest during pregame introductions? And how will he respond and hold up to the venom and the hate?
Boy, this is a sticky situation for the NBA. The buzz for this game is squarely focused on a negative. David Stern can't be thrilled about the circumstances and the reason this game holds such appeal for the masses, and yet like the rest of us, the commissioner will watch.
When additional security is needed for a December game on a Thursday, to protect a player not from a crush of adoring fans but from being crushed by someone who took "The Decision" a bit too personally, then it's not good for the league. Imagine if this game gets the highest ratings of the season. Sure, business is business, but is that really worth celebrating?
Actually, it's sorta been that way all season for the NBA and LeBron. Imagine: One of the league's best and highest-profile players is as welcome across the NBA as a fungus. Nobody comes to see LeBron play; people come to see LeBron fail. That makes him tough to market and promote in a league that relies so heavily on star power. The only folks with a trickier job when it comes to LeBron and his "appeal" are those who work for Nike.
How would the NFL feel, for example, if Peyton Manning was suddenly cast as a villain? Or in the NHL, if Sidney Crosby was booed in every arena outside of Pittsburgh? Or major league baseball, if the Yankees were despised everywhere they played? (Oh, wait.) Point is, LeBron is supposed to be one of the four or five league showpieces, someone to be respected in opposing arenas if not adored (like Michael Jordan was), but those days are gone, perhaps forever. And that point will be rammed home with authority come Thursday in Cleveland.
Yes, this game will draw high ratings, but will also cause a high degree of discomfort for the league. It will be the same squeamish feeling as when Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal met following their tense parting of the ways from the Lakers in 2004. Strangely enough, and foolishly in hindsight, the league scheduled that grudge match game on Christmas Day, giving it prime-time real estate on the highest profile day of the regular season, essentially tossing logs on the fire. That was an awkward message to send: "Come See Two Guys Who'd Love To Clobber Each Other."
The Heat-Lakers game itself was secondary to the bitter backdrop. Would Shaq and Kobe shake hands or at least touch fists in a show of solidarity before tip-off? (They didn't.) Would Shaq give Kobe a hard foul? Would Kobe try to dunk on Shaq? The interplay between former teammates, their championship-rich relationship ripped apart by jealousy and greed and ego, overwhelmed all else.
That game appealed to the beast in all of us, just like LeBron's return to Cleveland will. It's almost like the reasons some people watch hockey, not for the sport, but for the chance to see someone get sucker-punched.
Oh, well. Such is the life LeBron made for himself, and by extension, for Cleveland. Come Thursday, we get a player whose silly and callous disregard for Cleveland transformed him from a local sports hero into a national outcast, and a battered but proud city ready and willing to issue a stiff and firm payback, rooted on by an entire country. Yes, come see anger, stripped bare and specifically targeted at one person, flow in all of its R-rated glory.
Isn't that why you'll watch?

Is Facebook thinking about buying Twitter? (BLOG)

Facebook and Google are giving "serious look-sees" to Twitter as a potential acquisition, Liz Gannes at All Things D reports.
No term sheet has been extended, but both companies are apparently thinking about making a move. As we previously reported Google offered $2.5 billion - $4 billion for Twitter this year.
It would be out of character for Facebook to drop $4 billion on Twitter. It mostly buys smaller companies at lower price tags. It also offered $500 million in stock and cash for Twitter two years ago, which Twitter rejected.
Just last week Twitter cofounder Biz Stone said the company wouldn't sell, not even for $5 billion. That suggests the company would rather raise a fresh round.
Gannes reports DST is offering Twitter a $100 million investment at a $4 billion valuation. (We have heard from sources that DST is interested in Twitter, as well.) It is willing to make a huge investment to beat out Kleiner Perkins and Andreessen Horowitz, which both want to invest in Twitter.
