Cabinet Mins declare assets; Kamal Nath is richest

The list of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s crorepati Cabinet is finally out.

In a list of assets and liabilities of the Union Council of Ministers put up on the website of the Prime Minister's Office on Friday, it has been revealed that Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath is the richest with assets worth over Rs 263 crores.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, meanwhile, has assets worth around Rs 5 crores.

P Chidambaram, the Union Home Minister, on the other hand has declared his assets worth Rs 11 crores, while his wife has assets to the tune of Rs 12.8 crores.

Pranab Mukherjee, who is the Finance Minister, has assets worth just Rs 1.8 crores.

HRD minister Kapil Sibal and Minister of Chemical and Fertilisers MK Azhagiri are among the ministers with high value assets worth over Rs 30 crores each.

Defence Minister AK Antony, meanwhile, emerged as among the poorest ministers in UPA-2. He has assets worth just Rs 1.8 lakhs, while his wife has assets worth Rs 30 lakhs.

Among others, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has assets worth over Rs 12 crores, while Petroleum Minister Murli Deora and his wife have combined assets worth Rs 15.2 crores.

The ministers are bound to declare their assets and liabilities every year in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Ministers.

Under the Code, the Ministers have to give an update of their assets as also those of their spouses and dependents along with any business interest every year in the prescribed format.

The fresh list has been released after three reminders from Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar, but still not all ministers have made the declaration.
